Rash Decisions
« on: January 31, 2013, 01:07:34 PM »
Has anyone made any rash decisions in a bid to resolve their anxiety issues?

Recently I have uncovered that my house has become an issue, my anxiety heightens when i'm in my home and when travelling to my home. I am now convinced that i need to sell my house and move to another one.

My question to you all is this:

Should i make such a rash decision before my therapy has really got underway and my meds have been finalised? Or should i try and stick it out to see if i can find a way to cope, be it meds or CBT?

My wife is very upset about the whole things and thinks moving house is an over reaction. Logically i agree with her but that does nothing to lessen my anxiety and I really believe no-one understands how badly it effects us unless they have went through it themselves.

All views welcome.

No dont do it, im saying this because when my anxiety is at its worse its always when im at home, when youre in your home you tend to focus and overthink and then the brain associates this anxiety with its location..

At the minute i'm just making plans and seeing whats available to me. I'm seriously hoping i can overcome this and avoid having to move but every time i think about moving or even looking at potential properties i feel better immediately.

I wouldn't do it, to be honest. I feel the same about our home, this is where my anxiety is worst, and I've even told my husband that've should move out. Mostly it's memories of my parents who past away not too long ago and they lived with me for many years, but I'm learning to live through it because my anxiety will not get better if we move. In a while, the new home will also then become another trigger and yet another reason to flee. Just find help in therapists and counselors and I'm sure you'll find a way to cope being at home. I'm a stay-at-home mom, so one of my enemies, my home, is also going to be my competition and I plan on beating it no matter how long it takes me. Yes, they say to remove yourself from your triggers or avoid them, but a home, now that's a BIG decision. Well, that's my opinion at least. :) Best of luck.

Do NOT make any rash decisions.  Before I was diagnosed with anxiety, I made two rash decisions on my career that I have later regretted.

Understand that when your anxiety flares, your mind is trained to "fight or flee". Since there is nothing apparent to fight, your first reaction is to flee.  My recommendation is to take a step back and do not do anything in a hurry.

Take it from an old goat, don't do anything now that you will regret later - been there, done that.

this thought crossed my mind too...the reason for me was that at work i felt less anxious because i am busy in stuff and it is little easier to deflect..but at home there is no room to escape..so my anxiety use to increase when it was almost time to go to home..the fear of being more anxious at home and face another night at home made me hate my home.

but trust me it has nothing with house or anything..dnt do that.. take that as challenge...selling your house is just anothe escape thought..it'll make things worse later for you because later you'll beat yourself up later for making stupid decisions..so instead put your foot on the ground and face your anxeity..

good luck phil.. take care..

Starting to see a trend here people

So moving house is not and option, may be a temporary 'fix' but long term i'll probably just find something else to obssess over.

Going to work with my gp and therapist to get the required balance of meds and coping techniques and try to get past this without doing anything stupid.

I do think there is an issue with my house and area for both myself and my wife but we are not in a poisition to move and moving now would be for the wrong reasons.

Thanks for all the posts.
