Some kind of bladder/pelvic cancer, or a uti?
« on: January 24, 2013, 10:28:51 AM »
Hi Everyone.

Thought I was done with this HA thing-- things were great for a while, but now I'm feeling really worried again.  I've been having these pinching pains low in my pelvis.  Definitely low enough to be either bladder, uterus, or cervix or something down there.  Once when I had these pinching pains it was a UTI, but they come and go.  Anyway, they started Sunday night, were really bad Monday and into Tuesday.  They've been getting progressively better, and I am hoping it's because it is a UTI that I'm self-treating with 100 percetCranberry juice (TART!) and water.   But I am very concerned that it is NOT a UTI, but something much more serious.  Bladder pain = Bladder Cancer.  I shouldn't have googled, but I did.    I did have a Very slight positive on a home UTI test.  I also have a full script of Macrobid given to me for a UTI over the summer that I never took.  So, I could self-treat with antibiotics if I wanted to.

I'm afraid to see the doctor for a couple of reasons.  1) It's flu season AND our area has seen a lot of NOROVIRUS.  Disgusting germs and I can't tolerate going to see a doctor and coming into contact with that stuff.  2)  I worry that they will "order tests" and freak me out about having cancer.

I mean, I am actually feeling a lot better.  If it were C then I wouldn't just start feeling better, right?  And if I have a UTI and I'm feeling better, that means it is going away, right?  So there is no need for a doctor's visit.  This is logical, right?  Or am I being phobic about the doctor and not getting myself proper care?

Any thoughts?
Annette

I would say its a uti i have had them a few times. Try taking a blob of honey and a tsp of cinammon in a cup with half hot water and half milk it tastes really good and honey and cinammon can cure bladder infections!!!

It sounds to me like you have done a pretty good job of reasoning it through and answering your own question, which is the best way to deal with HA fears.

I guess I have done an okay job of talking myself through this, but I cannot make a decision about whether to see a doctor, whether to take the anti-biotic, or whether to continue to wait and see.   ::)

Well, now the pinching pain is back.... so maybe the uti isn't gone.... or maybe it is a cancerdown there somewhere.

And I was feeling so good....   :(

Highly unlikely that it's cancer - as you said before, most likely it's a UTI.  Drink cranberry juice (the real thing, not the sugared down kind of mixed with other juice).  It's quite strong, you might need to mix it with water.  Or take over the counter cranberry pills.  If it doesn't pass within a few days, you might want to see your doc or take the antibiotic.  UTI's generally clear themselves up.

Also, one thing I learned with UTI's - pee before sex and after sex.  Trust me - I started doing this and the UTI's are pretty much non-existent.

By the way - my mom had bladder cancer (when she was in her mid-80's.  No symptoms whatsoever.  They took out a chunk of her bladder (along with one kidney, too) and she's good to go.  She'll be 92 this month.

You're describing 100% totally typical UTI symptoms.  IMO worth seeing a doctor for antibiotics.  While home cures are usually effective in my experience, it only took the one time of it going to my kidneys on Good Friday and sending me to the ER in agony for me to resign myself to the fact that they aren't things to 0100 around with.

do you have pain with urination at all?  To me, that is the main symptom I get.  I get a lot of painful urination and one time, I even urinated blood.  Scared the witts out of me, but it was just a REALLY bad UTI.  I would say that if your test came back positive for UTI, though, that's probably what it is.  I would either go see the doc, just to make sure and take what he prescribes you (you probably will NEED antibiotics) or you could just try self treating with the ones you have.  If you feel better with that, then no need to see the doctor.

Thanks everyone.  I am also wondering if this is/was an ovarian cyst.  Anyone had one of those?  What did it feel like?  I have had a lot of nausea with this.

I have had no pain at all during urination.

panicqueen-  if you are midcycle, it could be normal signs of ovulation, which for me includ cramping, bloating, tenderness, fullness, and sometimes some sharp pains and spotting.

I do have the feeling of a full bladder with ovarian cysts - or that's thought to be the cause since I test negative for UTIs and the like - and sometimes pinching pain.  so yeah, could be that.  In which case there's generally nothing to be done but wait for it to go away.

Thanks, Mollyfin.

I saw the doctor.  She was actually very nice.  The urine dip came back with a trace of blood and a trace of leukocytes.  I am NOT googling trace of blood, b/c I DO NOT like the sound of it.  Anyway, she said it doesn't look like a glaring UTI, but something could come up when they culture it.   She also did a pelvic exam.  FUN!  But she felt my ovaries and didn't feel any "masses" as she called them.  I think if I was having a problem with cysts, the palpitation of the ovaries would have hurt, right?  Or she would have felt something, right?  Or not.

She thinks I probably had a UTI that I effectively chased away with cranberry juice and water, and it may be hanging on, and she's going to call me in Monday with results.

As for me, I'm continuing to flush my system with cranberry and water.   Also, I've had next to no pain today.  So it continutes to improve.

Do you think she likely felt my bladder during the pelvic?  I'm still concerned about a tumor in there.
