Therapy/Beta Blockers and ECT
« on: January 22, 2013, 04:55:23 PM »
Hey All

Basically today I had my 1st Therapy session in like 10 years and was given Lexapro 20 mg and Kalonipin or however its spelled in replacement of Ativan for Anxiety and Lexapro for both Anxiety and Depression. I also take Metformin 1000 mg and now Lisinopril 10 mg and Pravastatin Sodium 20 mg and Glipizide 5 mg. Also Metoprolol 25 mg which I believe is the beta blocker which I was told is to help reduce my high heart rate. Im just overwhelmed and feel like this is way to much medication and or some will mix bad with 1 another, last thing I need is more f'd up symptoms/side effects so im just concerned especially with the beta blocker as I am a heart hypochondriac. Opinions? Thanks so much for any feedback.

Given that you've already been on Lexapro and another benzodiazepine (BZD), you shouldn't notice any difference. In some respects the change from Ativan to Klonopin may actually reduce drug effects as Klonopin is metabolized much slower which means there are less peaks and troughs. If the Lexapro dose change and the BZD switch weren't prescribed by your PCP/GP make sure s/he's aware of them at the next visit so that everyone is up to speed.

As there is a wide category of drugs affecting different organs, all these drug groups shouldn't be affecting each other. However, I note that quite are few are for various aspects of cardiovascular disease. While they work well enough, exercise would also be beneficial. It's great for anxiety too.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.
