Brain tumor- i know, yet another one
« on: January 21, 2013, 10:47:40 PM »
I know there have been many , many posts about this worry, and it really isn't common. Although I just need some reassurance/ advice.
I am an 18 year old female, and the horror about a brain tumor has been with me for almost 2 weeks now.
Here are some of my symptoms:
-headaches
-eye "halos" when looking at light sources, especially at night
-Floaters, all day every day 24/7, If i'm in a room and its sunny, i have to close the curtains because the sun hurts my eyes and i see floaters. I see them in class when i look at the white powerpoint slides
-I am extremely tired. I've cut out caffeine, drink more water , and get enough sleep but I stay fatigued ALL day and am ready to sleep at 4 pm!
-I've missed my period, last time i had it was November 27th... im usually very regular and i am NOT sexually active
-Constant nose pressure at the back of my nose
-Random nauseousness
and just general malaise, i cannot focus on my courses, im a first year science student in university. I know i am anxiety prone, but this all very frustrating. My parents are tired/worried of me complaining over the phone  (i live in dorm) and i've shown the campus doctor, who isnt too concerned. I took a blood test, and my iron levels are VERY low, they have been in the past, so im taking them again. My ferritin storage was 5, and it is supposed to be really high. My B12 level is 194, which is the lower end of normal, so im taking pills for that.

I know this is just a lot of information thrown out. I just need to know it'll all be okay, im starting to get really depressed. And i just dont know what to do now, Im isolating myself from my friends who dont live on dorm because i dont even feel like texting them, its like im a different person. What do you guys think? If youve read this far, i really appreciate it.

The most important aspect of all of this is that you have seen a doctor who is not that concerned at all. If that doctor thought you had any kind of problems at all he would send you for more tests. This is something you have to accept. You have to repect and accept what a doctor tells you. He is the expert come the end of the day. I am sure it is just your anxiety playing up. As you seem to worry about such things a lot. Once we worry over the one thing a lot we make it into an even bigger issue. Were it begins to freak us out. Try your best not to cut yourself off from all your friends. It is at times like these having people around can help us out. Even by way of distraction. No matter how bad it may feel right now, there is always a road back. Just believe in yourself. Try keep the head up.

I've never heard of brain tumors correlating with skipped periods.  Is that a thing?

Floaters have nothing to do with your brain, btw.  They're in your eyes.  Literally just little bits of stuff floating around in there.

The tiredness is probably from the low iron levels and the floaters are common, i have heaps most people have at least some. You've spoken to a doctor and they aren't concerned so you need to relax and accept the doctor's word you do not have  a brain tumour.

doesn't sound like brain tumor material to me.  my dad and sis had big stuff going on...

what are you doing for your thinking disorder? what is working? what isn't?  what are you actually willing to do to work through your disorder?

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
