migraine auras without pain
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:33:39 PM »
just looking for a little support... does anyone here get the aura that comes before a migraine but then never get the headache? never experienced this til i got pregnant. i was having maybe 1 a month, usually triggered by flourescent lighting. im 8 months pregnant now and seem to get them more often and in clusters. ill go a couple weeks without one and then ill have 4 in a week. really freaks me out. ive seen my eye dr, OB and family dr about this and they all admit its unusual but they dont seem too concerned about it. i of course am worrying its a brain tumor. anyone experience anything similar? hoping its just the hormones and i wont get them after baby is born.

My migraines are all aura and no pain. I have had migraines for almost three years now and have only had two incidents of pain. Horrible pain. Yet I have auras on a daily basis, mostly triggered by light. I get peripheral auras and arcs which look like white, bright light moving up and down my peripheral vision. I get the coma type aura about once a month, sometimes every two months. Those block vision from my right eye completely. They look like black spots in your vision, almost like burn ins from a bright light. Like I mentioned above, no pain associated with them and when I have had pain, the auras did not trigger it so there was no warning.

My migraines began with pre-menopause so they are hormonal. If you began getting them while pregnant, then I suspect hormones as well and the possibility they will go away once your baby is born. I am hoping mines goes away once my period is completely gone. Another 10-15 years to go, I guess.

I have 1 or 2 every month and usually its without a headache. Very annoying. I work at a computer all day which i think is the cause. 90% of the time its towards the end of the work day.  Docs and an eye surgeon said they are normal and to deal with it. Best advice i can give is as soon as it starts is close your eyes and relax, possibly with a wet cloth on your eyes. if u try to power through it I find it lasts much longer and is much worse.

I started getting these in my first pregnancy at about 6 months along, and got them in my second pregnancy, and now I'm 20 weeks pregnant and I suspect I will get them with this pregnancy too. It scared me too, but I'm use to it now. I get a flow of white dots in my vision, and no headache. My ob tells me it's migraine w/o aura. Try not to stress over it.

Yep. Every month I either get severe migraines or auras without pain which I call "a case of the stupids". The aura/no pain puts me in worse shape for functioning then the actual migraine pain. And, it's annoying!

Yes, I hardly ever get migraine headaches any more but I get auras quite frequently, or I get ocular migraines, which continue to be the most annoying things I've ever experienced, but at least blessedly painless.  Mine are also triggered by light!  I find the best way to get rid of them is to just cover my eyes as much as possible and just let it "burn itself out" quickly.  With mine, without light to "feed it," it usually goes away in a few minutes, at most maybe 10-15 minutes, usually less.

sounds like ocular migraine.  I've only had pain with them once or twice.

I don't see how it could be a brain tumor.  seems to me you are jumping to worst case scenario without cause.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
