Just had CT scan
« on: January 21, 2013, 10:55:18 AM »
Well just had this done about two hours ago, without contrast of the sinuses the whole thing took like 2 mins and I was told ENT will have my results in 10 days. Worried like hell it will show my worst fear....I dont have any follow up appointment with ENT at the moment so she said to call them...I take it they would probably call me if something bad showed up anyway?

If something bad showed up they wouldn't have let you leave.  They would have had you take seat in the waiting room and have a Dr consult with you.  Techs have training to see the bad stuff....if you are home your in the clear for anything serious.

It's highly probable that you're fine.  If something is wrong, you'll hear about it the next day by the latest.  They don't screw around :)

No they wouldn't leave you hanging for 10 days if something was dire. I doubt it is though! Keep us posted, and praying you get good results, FAST! I hate the waiting. When I had to wait for CT results I was a nervous wreck as well. I didn't even want the CT a doctor demanded it. I ended up being fine, but the waiting was dreadful.

When I had my MRI the waiting was the worst. I actually called the office and explained my situation (I was having terrible panic attacks) and they got me the results the next day. If things get worse for you, maybe that would be a possibility.

Just try and keep your mind as occupied as you can during the 10 days. And as everyone has already said, if they saw something like you are thinking, they would not have let you leave.

Well its been 24 hours and nothing, not heard a thing. Home phone has rang 2 x today so far and I have jumped nearly outta my skin on both occasions expecting it to be the hospital or the doc.

I got my ovarian CT scan results the next day...my doctor called the house, got my mom (I was asleep, having been up all night panicking), told her "Oh, no need to wake her up, it's not a malignancy."  So even if your phone does ring the next day, it's not necessarily bad news!   But yes, the longer they leave you hanging, the more you can relax...they're not going to find something horrible and get back to you when they feel like it.

Still heard nothing, god I keep thinking all the different scenarios like, They will call today and say to come to the hospital, or what if they seen something thats needs further investigation and I will only get told when I see ENT next...or what if they didnt even look at the scan yet...

OK, called my gp up, nurse called me back and she had got results from the hospital computer for me.....deviated septum and maxillary sinusitis..........! nothing else. I was told that scan would show my frontal lobes of the brain by the ent surgen. Guess I should stop this worry now then? Since the sinusitis probably answers my headaches. Dr took a quick look for me too and said to use nasal sprays for now since it doesnt show infection but shows inflamation. So nasal sprays ultil I see ENT again.

I'm sorry, I don't know your whole story; but I saw CT scan & headaches.
What kind of headaches?
I ask because my husband was having dibilitating headaches for about 5 months. 5 ER trips, 2 different ENT's, a lumbar puncture, 2 CT scans, a neurologist visit, multiple trips to his GP, rounds of different types of medications....all to find (on the SECOND CT scan by the SECOND ENT) that he had a bone spur on his septum that was pushing into his sinuses. He got a septoplasty surgery to take the bone spur out....and voila no more headaches. His headaches were mimicking a migraine; double vision, nausea, light sensitivity...all from one little bone spur.

I'm not sure what type of headaches you're having, but I'd have them check for bone spurs. And, if you feel like you need to, get a second opinion. My husbands first CT scan showed nothing (the second ENT we went to showed us how differently both of his scans looked; the first one was a really poorly done scan)

Headaches are like a dull nagging ache around my face and eyes and abit like a pressure. I have had these for around 15 weeks as well as getting tight sore scalp and neck - which I persume is a tension headache type from the constant worry. (that type came on a few weeks after I started to worry) I have also had 4 viruses in that 15 weeks all of which have seemed to go straight to my sinuses and also had a 2 week eustachian tube block.

I also had and still have sometimes a kinda light head/dizzy feeling.

Apart from that I have ongoing issues with my eyes because they have keratoconus, my left eye progressed to the point where I cannot correct with contacts and I need a Transplant cornea, but before I found out what the vision problems were caused by I started to think Brain Tumor....headaches/multiple vision.

After the ear blockage my gp finally sent me to ENT who ordered the scan as well as saying to me it will show the frontal part of your brain as well as the sinuses, he already noted the deviated septum before the scan, and thats all that has showed up is the inflamation of my sinuses and the deviated septum.

I was told by the ENT at the first appointment that they would probably operate and straighten the passages up if they cause problems.
