Ewww! Can't let this go!
« on: January 18, 2013, 06:23:44 PM »
Today at work I got a phone call in the main office. While I was talking on the phone I got distracted by someone that had come into the office and turned my head...part of my lower lip accidentally TOUCHED THE MOUTHPIECE OF THE PHONE! Gross, gross gross! Of course, my head is spinning thinking about what terrible disease I'm going to get now. I'm so afraid of the flu, since I am pregnant. (And yes, I have had my flu shot.)
When I got back to my office, I wiped the part of my lip that touched with an alcohol cleansing wipe (from a first aid kid). But I still can't get past this. I have already been sick this week and am going on antibiotics, I don't want anything else!

okay so what is the WORST thing that would happen if you had the flu?  You'd feel like garbage and then you would go on.

I don't know how many times my mouth has touched things and I did just fine.

btw---my mom is in the hospital because of a stroke.  she has serious and nasty necrotizing pneumonia--a moderately anti-b resistant kind only 3 anti-b's are effective).  I could probably tell you the name of the bacteria but I won't cuz, well.....  :winking0008:  However I was with her for several days stroking her head, holding her hand (and she is weeping fluids from the edema so I got some on me).  The last two days the infectious disease doc said we had to wear blue gowns when we saw her.  Guess what?  with all of that close contact, I still didn't get sick OR end up with the bacteria she has.

moral of the story.  You will be fine.    ;D

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Ordinarily I wouldn't freak that much about the flu, but it can be very dangerous for pregnant women. Your risk of developing serious complications is 5x higher than the average person.

you've had the flu shot.

and another btw--- I brought many babies into this world.     most through flu season.  I never got the flu shot during any pregnancy (only one time have I ever gotten the shot in my life) and never got the flu.
