Being cold and anxiety
« on: January 18, 2013, 04:37:24 PM »
Ok i have noticed something. When i get cold at home my anxiety starts. I get cold hands and feet, ice cold sometimes. My husband told me one time something must be wrong with you. SO now im worried thinking heart faliure, i have svt ( sudden rapid heart beat). I have heart palps when i get anxiey so my heat is constantly on my mind. Or im thinking its my throid. They checked  my throid a couple years ago said it was fine im healthy. But its hard not too be worried, why i get cold. I try and keep the  thermostat on 70 he turns it down to like 68.  I never have this issue outside of winter.

When I'm anxious my hands and feet always turn ice cold too! It's so weird but I know it happens to a lot of other people too as one time I asked about it in the chat room. From what I've read, during a period of high anxiety the body pulls blood from the extremeities to our major organs in order to prepare the body for "flight or fight". I think this lack of blood to our hands and feet is what causes the cold and tingly feelings. Of course, if you have never been checked out by a doctor then getting a second opinion for piece of mind would be a good idea. But rest assured, it happens to me too and I've had my thyroid and heart checked out many times...all tests came back normal. Hope this helps!

It could totally be that you are just more sensitive to the cold. In my house I am the one who is always freezing while my husband and daughter are always hot. And sometimes with anxiety disorders, we dont always feel anxious when the physical symptoms are present. It's just weird like that! LOL.

Just because you feel cold or chilly and someone else feels otherwise doesn't mean you have a health issue.  Your body is just reacting differently.  Heck, it could even be hormonal.  I'm like this all the time.  I have been my whole life - I'll be 56 this year.  If it were something serious, it would have shown up a long time ago.  Just dress appropriately if you're feeling cold, whether you're inside or outside.

I get the two extremes: I either get hot flashes or I get the chills, like when you have a fever. A lot of times I have hot flashes and the chills at the same time.
