my outter thighs feel bruised
« on: January 18, 2013, 03:33:14 PM »
As the topic says........my outter thighs feel like they are bruised. No bruise is there at all though.  If I poke at my thigh it hurts....or if my son grabs my leg.....the cat walks on them..or even if I rub against something.  It's almost like the skin is waaaaay over sensitive. Have any of you felt this....is it a normal thing that I am giving too much thought?

Mel I have had that before. I get it around my calves or knees. I often wonder if a nerve or tendon is irritated and it feels like the skin has been irritated. Usually takes a bit and then it passes.

It's been a few weeks and seems to come and go. It's just weird because I keep looking to see if a bruise erupted and nothing is there.  However I always freak out because my veins look like bruises  ;*) then I panic. Lol

I have that too...I get the bruised feeling in outer thigh and many other places. I also think it is due to irritated nerves or even holding ourselves tense without realizing it. Have you ever asked your doctor about fibromyalgia? My doctor thinks I may have it but I never followed up with the specialist because I didn't want to take the meds for it. But that's another story..lol. Feeling pain or a bruising sensation in things, arms, neck, shoulder, may be due to this condition. Or, it could also be just due to a tense body. :)

I've had that going on for a long, long time.  Never knew what it was about until I came upon Dr. John Sarno's books - he briefly talks about a "bruised" feeling along the thighs and attributes it to repressed emotions.  Nothing new for anxiety peeps.

OMG, I thought I would never see the day when someone would post about this because I have had this and always thought it was because I was dying of something. I lived with that secret fear for many years because I had never heard of anyone else experiencing this before except me.

I had this symptom years ago and it lasted for years. I went to the doctor several times because of it but I was so scared that it was something terrible that I would never describe the pain in detail. I would just tell them that my whole body hurt.

I remember sitting in the bus and a little kid passed by me and reached out to hold onto my thigh and the pain was terrible. I always felt like my outer thighs were extremely bruised and sensitive. The lightest touch hurt. I tried to use the swings in the park one time and couldn't because of the pressure the leather seat out on my outer thighs. I would also have the same pain on my outer upper arms.

After many years of suffering from this symptom, I kind of forgot about it and when i did, it disappeared. Recently its returned though and I kind of panicked until reading this thread.

Wow guys....that really makes me feel better thank you.  I also googled and saw fibromyalgia . But I also saw it could be a nerve in the groin area. It does freak me out though.  My sons baby gate  tipped over and bumped my thigh and I almost went through the roof because it hurt so much.  It's so odd. I hate looking for signs of a bruise because I swear I see them but when I look closer I notice its just veins. I hope it goes away soon because it just makes me over think and I really don't want to be living in fear again.  And I can't stop poking at them because o want to see if it still hurts.  I can just rub my hand down my thigh and I feel it.  Now that you mention it I also Fe it in my upper arms once in awhile although not nearly as bad.

Mel - I understand what you are saying only mine is in my hip.  It is sore like I should have bruised it but there is no bruise there.  I think I hit it with the vacuum cleaner 2 weeks ago (but in true HA style, my mind doesn't feel 100% sure).  Of course it didn't bother me at first but the more I think about it or the more anxious I feel, the more I notice it.  I have been exercising a lot and my lower back and butt and upper thigh will feel sore.  It is not constant.  It is driving me crazy cause it makes me want to go to the Dr, and I haven't, and know i need to deal with the anxiety instead.  I just want to say, you are not alone with thinking that.  I know when I pay attention to it, it feels worse, and i know if I completely forget about it, i don't notice it.  I am hoping it is muscle related.  I am betting that is yours too.  Just want you to know you are not alone.  Take care.

Just wanted to comment and say I have this exact thing going on on both of my thighs. I get it occasionally on my thighs or calves and I always thought it was from straining it. It was worse yesterday and a little better today. I never knew what caused it. But you're definitely not alone. Probably has something to do with nerves.

I have this ache on my thighs and both upper arms and tops of my forearms. Almost flu like, but it's not. Maybe just from being tense? I'm a nurse and I know that veins can cause pain too. Just not sure if anxiety can. Maybe I have depression? Ugh who knows!

Yep I still have it too.  And if I scratch an itch on my thighs it will sting really badly.
