Antidepressants work very well for about a third that take them, okay for another third and do very little for the remainder. The ratios are about the same for therapy.

Furthermore, while no antidepressant is intrinsically better than any other, one or two will be for an individual. The hard part is finding it/them. A lot of people need to try several before finding one that works for them, and, as per above, about a third never do.

The usual minimum effective Effexor dose is 75mg (typical dose range 75-225mg/day (375mg max)), and most need to take more to get good results. As with all antidepressants, it will take 3-12 weeks at a therapeutic dose before it begins working.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.

that's great that you are in therapy! i believe therapy and meds can work hand in hand- one from the bottom up of the brain (therapy), and one from the top down (medication). sometimes we need meds to get us to a point where we can even be worth a darn in therapy- i know that's how i was. i was having continuous panic attacks until i found the right med combo that suited me, then the progress in therapy was much more rewarding.

you can't go by me, because i am a mixed bag of treats  :sprachlos020: i have bipolar 2, GAD and panic attacks. i take abilify for the moods, and xanax for the anxiety. i have tried many different benzos, but nothing works for me, and i can't take SSRI's/SNRI's either.
