Really tired for the second day in a row.
« on: January 17, 2013, 04:15:52 PM »
OK, like the title says I'm really tired for the second day in a row. I haven't slept much the last two nights, last night I actually woke up at around 4am and I couldn't fall asleep again :( I usually cope well with little sleep and I have had swollen lymph nodes for over five years so I'm worrying a lot now that this could be symptom of something else, like cancer. What is cancer fatigue like anyway?

From what I understand cancer fatigue is severe. Like you can't function. I am not 100% sure on that though. I am thinking that even though you typically function well on little sleep the fact that your sleep is disrupted is causing havoc because you are not getting continuous sleep. Hopefully things will level out and you will feel better soon!

I totally understand your fears!

That is what I've heard too, that cancer fatigue can be so bad that sometimes people can't get out of bed.
I have somewhat screwed up my sleep pattern over the last few months and I remember this happening at the same time 5 years ago but that just stopped one day.

I just took a shower and was a bit better for a few minutes...getting tired again now though. But whilst I was showering I felt one of the nodes in my right groin. It seems to have gone down quite a bit...it's certainly not nearly as big as it was at first.

And now I'm a bit woozy.

I get woozy when I am tired as well so that could be some of it. You may also have a mild virus or cold and that can make you feel tired, etc. Good news on the node!

Having had anxiety for almost 40 decades, it never ceases to amaze me just how fatigued we can feel from just anxiety.

You said that you haven't slept much in the past 2 nights and then woke up quite early.  Lack of sleep can really affect anxiety and also contribute to fatigue.  Whenever I have to get up earlier than my regular time, I always feel it throughout the day.  My body just isn't used to it.

You might want to try taking melatonin - it helps to regulate sleep.

I've been alright during the day but in the evening really tired. So I'm not sure it could be a virus or a cold.

It is! But I have several others that are still roughly the same size.

I'm sure you mean 4 decades  :P
Strangely I'm not really feeling anxious ....just really really tired. Although I'm sure the anxiety has a lot to do with it.

Now I'm getting the leg pain that bothered me most of last year.

I also don't handle tiredness very well, I get incredibly dizzy and feelings of unreality.

I have been sleeping much better lately though since downloading a free app on my iPad which has the sound of rain. It really works to calm down my mind before sleep and it has a timer you can set so you don't have to worry about turning it off.

It's worked for me?

Ugh...suddenly got really tired.
I hate getting tired in the day or early evening. Always, ALWAYS start to wonder if it's my lymph nodes that are causing it. That thought makes me even more tired. :(

I slept for almost nine hours last night and I slept well. But I've been having irregular sleep for months now. Also I took a long walk today, that could be causing this. Right?

Really tired and quite woozy and lightheaded now. :( Feel like I'm about to fall. :(
Was good at work but almost as soon as I came home I got really tired. I woke up in the middle of the night last night and never properly fell asleep again. Maybe that is causing this?

Also I've not eaten a lot today.

You know - this could be anything or nothing.  If it were me?  It seems like you start feeling like this when you're at home - is that correct?  Well, how about checking for pollutants or anything unusual going on in your house.  For me, it could be the woodstove (particulants) or the heating system .... pets?  This could very easily be allergies (been there, done that).

Anxiety can also present itself as exhaustion and fatigue.  So can depression.  I think it's important to be logical about all of this - look at your diet - how much you exercise (if you do at all) ... that sort of thing.  If you don't exercise, start.  If you're not exercising regularly, sure, you will feel tired after you work out or take a long walk.

If you're not sleeping well then you're creating a sleep debt which means you keep increasing your need to sleep with every hour of sleep that you're missing.

Say you normally would sleep 8 hours per night but last night you slept 7. Now you have a sleep debt of 1. The next night you sleep 6 hours, so now you have a sleep debt of 3. The next night you miss an hour and now it goes to 4. You need to sleep 4 extra hours to pay off your sleep debt. It keeps getting worse the more sleep you miss and don't "pay back" in sleeping.

You get chronically tired that way.

Also, if nothing else have your iron levels checked as anemia can cause realllllly bad fatigue. I have it and it sucks:( I have to take supplements all the time and since they're constipating I don't always keep up and my iron goes down. It's supposed to be anywhere from like 15 to 150 or something like that but mine is usually maybe 11 and it went down to 5 once. I could barely get out of bed, everything hurt and my muscles were burning when I did simple things like brushing my hair. It takes about 2 or 3 months to get your iron up as well, and that's taking about 325 mgs of iron a day.

I doubt it's the first thing. The only exercise I really get is walking. I walk quite a bit, sometimes get really tired during. Not physically tired, more sleepy.

If you've have swollen lymph nodes for five years it won't be cancer you'd have known by now.  Did you ever mention your lymph nodes to your doctor? You say your sleep has been up and down recently that coupled with anxiety can be enough to make you exhausted.

Oh yes I have! I've been to see an hematologist about them several times. He's not worried about them. I'm 24 and slow growing lymphoma is really rare in someone my age.
