Dizzy after flying
« on: January 17, 2013, 04:04:42 PM »
Does anyone else have balance issues for days after flying.  Like a walking on a boat feeling?  I just don't understand how that can be normal. Now I am afraid to fly ever again, it has happened twice.  I get headaches too.

This whole MS fear is becoming all consuming.  I am really close to begging my doctor for an SSRI or something to take daily. I can't even focus at work.

Any input is appreciated.

do you have any congestion/ear issues? flying while congested has really messed me up before. I don't think ms symptoms would be affected by flying. I'd talk to an ent, it might just a simple matter of taking something to dry you up before you fly.
I'd say the more pressing issue is to get your anxiety under control if it is affecting your daily activities. people have different ideas about meds, I'm a fan but think they are only part of the equation. Good luck.

Thanks for responding. I did have congestion in my ear, nothing noticeable in my sinus, but when I got home my doctor saw that everything was inflamed and congested.  It is just so odd to me how all these neurological symptoms come on at once.

I was an absolute mess after flying back home. Headaches, dizzy, post nasal drip, spaced out feeling, etc.  It really kick started all this anxiety for me.  Now the pins and needles, floaters, etc. have me convincing myself it is something sinister.  I go from being fine to being paralyzed with fear in a matter of hours. I am in therapy too.. but he thinks my hypochondria is a distraction from something else emotionally that I am not addressing.  I just want it gone... no one gets i

Feeling dizzy after a journey is Mal de debarquement Syndrome.  Take a small dose of Valium an hour before your next flight and one during flight IF it is long journey.  Benign, but it is important to do this so you do not have prolonged MDDS in the future.  Dr Cha at UCLA usually prescribes her mdds patients Val for journeys.

I have researched that MDDS before and scared myself a bit.  I suppose I could have that, but I also have had sinus infections/fluid in the ears around the times of these flights.  I would hate to never be able to travel because of having a rare syndrome that poses the risk of a lifetime of dizziness after travel.  It makes me extrememly sad. I have a recent trip coming up and all this worry has destroyed any excitement about it.  :traurig001:

Happens to me even sometimes when driving for any long distance and definitely after a cruise...sometimes after a flight.  I've always attributed to getting my "land legs" back after having my "sea legs, or air legs" or wel...you get the picture.  I've never worried about it...probably because I'm worrying about too many other things.
