I doubt that if you had cancer a year ago, you'd still be wondering if you have it. Stress and anxiety can knock our bodies way out of shape.

There is a "range" that the physicians go by.  The fact that your white count was way up last year could have been because of some sort of infection - something very minor, in fact.  Even a paper cut can cause our nodes to swell up and increase the white count.

If your doctor isn't worried then try not to be too. White blood cells can fluctuate due to many reasons; you may have had an infection at the time of your last test and not even realised.  Also as LindaRK says, test results use a low-to-high range. Often results are towards the lower or upper ends of the range; it doesn't mean anything necessarily as the body is a living thing which fluctuates on a daily basis.

I had two concurrent blood tests where my potassium levels were off the charts (like 5 times the upper level of the range). In the end I went to the lab to have the sample collected and it came back fine - so never discount the impact that improper collection, storage and transport can have on a sample. I think you need to have blood drawn at the lab for the most accurate results - Doctors simply use the tests as an indicator to see if anything is REALLY obviously wrong, not a bit low here, or a bit high there.

Try not to worry!

he wants me to re test next week to see what the change will be, i am really worried, dont want to die this year :( i know i am sounding over the top, i think anxiety is embarrasing and takes over me, just concerned now having low white blood cells if i have some form of cancer, i am always tired and falling asleep, but suppose that maybe due to the under active thyroid
