New here-hoping for some reassurance
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:38:23 PM »
Hi all!

I'm new to the forum but have done some lingering the last few weeks. I'm in therapy for mild OCD and health anxiety, which has spiraled out of control after a rough pregnancy.

My recent HA has been melanoma, which I've noticed is common. I just had my 6 month check up bc I have tons of moles and a few atypical ones. I'm in panic mode bc a bump was taken off my leg that my derm previously said was a dermatofibroma(scar tissue from trauma). She actually put a steroid shot on it bc she was so confident! Now yesterday, she said it looked weirder than my other dermatofibromas (I have two others) and removed it for biopsy!

How can her opinion change?? Ugh! She said she just needs to be sure but wonder is she left something horrible on my skin for 6 months?? It hasn't grown, just irritated from shaving.

My mind is spinning to all the worst case scenarios I've found online. :(

Welcom to AZ.  As you mentioned many people have melanoma anxiety.  Just realise you are lucky to have your moles looked at so often. It sounds like you and your doctor are really on top of this situation, so I wouldn't worry. You are doing everything you can possibly do.  And I am sure deep down you realise that this mole is probably just fine.  Many people have quesitonable moles that turn out to be benign.  Try and not worry.  You'll be good.

Now is the time to start learning to deal with your anxiety because you will want to be able to deal with the next situation that crops up.  I find that reading self help books is really beneficial.
