Winter seasonal depression anxiety?
« on: January 16, 2013, 08:27:00 PM »
It has been raining here and cold for a week straight. I have just been out for groceries and job interview. I feel I am straighting to fight depression, I'm constantly tired and having a hard time getting up in the mornings. Surprisingly I have had a check on my anxiety. But I hate feeling like this blah. Anyone else feel worse in the winter I think they call it seasonal depression.

Winter can curl up and die. I hate how it gets dark early. Always depresses me.

Yes...same here. Anxiety comes on and usually lasts till holidays are over. My doctor calls it "seasonal disorder" and says it is quite common.

Amen to this! Waking up in the dark,  getting home from work in the dark. We all need some sunshine in our lives!

Yep its a miserable time of year and although I love the wet weather (weird I know :D ) I think it's the dark that makes things worse. It almost has a claustrophobic feel for me. I wish I could just hibernate through it all :D

So glad to hear other people understand, I always get anxiety this time of year. It does feel kinda claustphobic to me too being stuck in the house all the time. I would love to just sleep though winter so it would be over. Oh and I stay cold too.

I take 1000 IU of Vitamin D (in addition to a multivitamin that contains 700 IU) each day, and I find it helps keep me focused and in reasonably high spirits. Lack of sunlight = lack of vitamin D. Taking a supplement can make a noticeable difference.

I was thinking of taking a supplment too, i was reading about a lack in vit D. This time of year if you live above Atlanta Ga this  its very hard to get vit D from the sun because it is too far away. Dont know how true that is, I ty to go out and soak up some sun if its out anyway. I usually dont stay too long cause its just darn cold!

Have heard of light therapy but the light bulbs are expensive I think, I started taking a multivitamin seems to help some.
