Aches, Pains, and Numbness.... All In My Head?
« on: January 16, 2013, 10:01:34 AM »
I'm having a hard time being able to tell what's'really pain and whats in my head. it seems so unlikely that my brain could put me in this much pain. For 2 weeks now I've been having arm, neck and shoulder pain that seems to be getting worse, my back hurts as well and so does my ear. all the pain is on my left side which scares me even more. Im cardiophobic and my husband says its all in my head but i cant grasp that concept, I even went to the emergency room and they did an EKG, a chest x-ray and Blood tests, all came back normal. but now im worried that they just told me that because i dont have insurance. IDK what to do anymore, im so scared of these pains, could they really be in my head?   :fragend005:

The Er did not tell you tests were normal became you don't have insurance. Anxiety causes us to tense in all sorts of ways without realizing it.

Muscle tension.  Look up John Sarno, MD and his books.

There's no way the ER can just tell you that you're okay if you aren't.

Hiya,
I am feeling the same kind of aching and pains as you described. Mine started around 5 weeks ago now and like you said, it doesn't seem to be getting any better. The only thing that has stopped is the pins and needles I was experiencing down my left arm and shoulder especially at night and I would also wake up numb. Unlike you, I haven't been to the hospital as I have a real big phobia of anything medical. I spoke to my GP on the phone when it first started and he seemed to think it was viral (although I was getting ear and throat pain at that time too)
My therapist is pretty sure it is anxiety related as I have been receiving therapy for 9 months now. I am just convinced it is something more serious. Lately I am also having trouble burping too and get a burning feeling in my windpipe...again my therapist thinks this is acid reflux due to anxiety. I would love to wake up one day and actually feel OK for once :( I don't no if you experience trouble with your balance when standing or a dizzy type feeling because I am getting that too??

I'm afraid to even stand up because when I do I get dizzy and my heart beat terribly. I also have this burning feeling in my stomach and chest tho I expect that may be acid reflux. I want to feel better too. I'm so tired of being afraid all the time. Every morning I have a new or worse symptom.

I no exactly how you feel. I have only left the house in the past 6 weeks to go to my parents home..that's it. Soo fedup!
Do you find that the chest aches etc are worse depending on what side you sleep on? Each morning when I wake up I find the side I have slept on most always feels slightly worse and kind of numb..the numbness eases when I awake properly (strange) I have been using a hot water bottle for the past week which helps to relieve some of the discomfort but doesn't ease it.

I find that the pain worsens when I last down. If I lay on my right side I feel like it's pulling my left side down, if I lay on my left side I feel like I can't breathe and if I lay on my back I feel like I'm being crushed. I also find that when I wake up my legs are numb and my back aches. My arm always hurts and my teeth and jaw acts up too. It's so frustrating.

I have left arm tension too, jaw sometimes aches; no chest pain. I do have GERD. I have had panic disorder/mitral valve since I was 19. I am 47. The left arm thing is bothersome and scares me!! I haven't had an echo in a year and a half. I did wear a heart monitor last spring. Everything tends to always check out. I did schedule a visit with cardio on Feb 4. But in the meantime, I read junk on the internet stating it is the heart. I have always been a health worrier. If it wasn't this, it would be somehting else. I am soooooooooooo tired of it!!! Anybody experience these symptoms I listed????
