bump behind daughters ear
« on: January 15, 2013, 01:46:46 PM »
my daughter is six months old and has a bump behind her ear like back right where hair line starts. I noticed a couple of weeks after she was born and it is still there. It hasnt gotten bigger or changed but hasnt gone away either. I asked dr at 2 month visit and she said it was a lymphnode that was swollen and it should be gone by the time she is 6 months..... ugh

I know with babies, children that sometimes nodes are more prominent and can remain that way for a while. If you are worried take her in and have her ped give her a once over. It may help set your mind at ease :)

It's pretty rare for a baby to be born with cancer.  Like, supremely rare.  If she's had it basically since birth, I would try not to worry, especially since it's not growing.  Enjoy these days with her; they go by so fast!  You could call your pediatrician if it's really worrying you but really, she's fine.

Everyone that has seen me posting for the last year, knows that i went through the EXACT thing! I noticed this lump on my sons neck area the day he was born, but I just pushed it to the side. When he was around 1, i took him to the DR for a sinus infection .. it was a different DR. He felt and saw this lump and that's when all the tests started. He was pretty confident that it was lymphoma. He got an ultrasound, MRI with contrast, a crap ton of blood work. Imagine having to hold your 1 year old down during an MRI, or even blood work. Blood results came back that it was "70% lymphoma." They did MORE blood tests. Come to find out, he just has overly large nodes, and his sinuses were causing them to be big to. Don't freak out. If she had lymphoma, you WOULD know. There would be more symptoms going on then JUST this lump. =) Good luck!
