Anyone have an itchy mole that turned out to be fine?
« on: January 15, 2013, 09:59:21 AM »
I went to the derm yesterday (as a follow up) and pointed out a small (like 1.5 mm) pink mole on my back.  I don't know if the mole itself is new, but right around Thanksgiving I noticed that it was itchy -- not terribly itchy, but a little itchy.  It was something I noticed a few times a day.  The mole didn't LOOK suspicious, but she suggested taking a biopsy b/c of the itch.

Has anyone every had a mole that itched (for 8+ weeks) that turned out to be fine?

So I'm NOT googling, but I made the mistake of looking through the archives of this board (thinking I'd feel better) and now I'm even more worried.

If and that is a big IF something turns out to be wrong, your mole is very, very small and that is GOOD news! The fact that you have realized it was itchy, etc probably makes you notice the itch more and makes you scratch. Some of it could be mental.

When will you get the results?

It was removed last night and they say they know in "a few days" if it's anything bad.  I've read too many scary stories about tiny little things that turn out to be scary and advanced....

Just remember that just because you read it doesn't mean it will happen to you, and think about the countless others who have this same thing and it turns out to be fine...you never read those stories because only the rare, scary cases are talked about, posted about, written about.

I'm also trying to remind myself that this spot was totally pink -- not brown or tan at all.  In order for it to be melanoma, it would also have to be amelonotic melanoma, which is very rare.  So, basically, I'd have to have a melanoma that didn't conform to the ABCD criteria and was also a rare and unusual form.

Still -- I'd feel so much better if I knew that there was someone else who had an itchy mole!  Anyone?

That is an excellent perspective! I think that is very good and positive thinking! I am sure with as many moles as I have (seriously have tons!) one has itched before. However, I can't say that definitely at the moment because my mind is so caught up in other fears that I can't fully process what bothered me when.

I have a lot of moles and sometimes they itch. I've never associated the itch as being anything bad. Sometimes when I shave my legs, I accidentally take a mole and it bleeds. Then it developed a scab but I've been fine. I try to not do that though. The few times its happened, its been by accident.

I've had itchy moles before.  Not 100% sure but I always assumed it was just from the irritation of clothing rubbing on them.  Never turned out to be anything bad!

Yep I've had an itchy mole that was removed and my fiancé had one removed that was black, itchy and had a pink halo around it. Both were completely benign.

Thanks everyone --- it's good to hear that itchy doesn't automatically mean something bad!

For those of you with itchy moles -- we're they REALLY itchy or just a little?  How frequently did they itch?  Mine was not a constant itch -- just a few times a day (but for a few minutes each time).  I never had to really scratch it -- I just had to rub it to get it to go away.  Strange.  Did the itch last for an extended period of time before you had it checked?  I waited just under 2 months.....

Also -- and I don't know if this is weird -- the area around the mole seemed to itch as well.
