Does chronic gas = ovarian cancer?
« on: January 14, 2013, 05:49:34 PM »
Having a bad day. I've had bad gas and churning in my stomach for 6 weeks. My GP treated me for gastritis, but it didn't help. I don't have diarrhea, constipation or nausea, but I have had some burning in my upper stomach and some lower back pain. My grandmother died of ovarian cancer and, at 34, I'm convinced I have it too. I have a gyno appointment in 2 weeks, but I'm having a hard time waiting that long. Would anyone mind talking me down off the ledge? :goofy:

I've had this fear too...for the same reason...
Most normal people have gas and are worried about "tooting."

I've had gas and worry about all sorts of things...sigh.  I get it.  I understand.

It's good that you're getting checked because you are being a good and responsible person about your health.  If it makes you feel better you can always ask if there is a cancellation.  Otherwise, try not to worry...'cause worry can cause tummy troubles - and therefore more pain and then more worry etc...

Try to do something fun for yourself and the time will pass until your appt and then you'll feel better I'm sure.

Hugs.

No.  Chances are it means something in your diet is making you gassy.  And the more you worry about it, the more stomach upset you'll get!

Ugh.  I have this same fear.  I swear every time I pass gas it equals tumor.  It's insane and I know no normal person thinks like this.  I know it's rough waiting for the appointment but hopefully they'll get you checked out and calm your fears.  Hang in there!

Thanks guys! I've calmed down a bit. But then realized my gyno appointment is scheduled for what should be the second day of my period. Guess I'll call tomorrow and see if they can get me in any sooner.....sigh.

Oh, I HATE when that happens!

Even if your gas is caused by an ovarian cyst, less than 1% of ovarian cysts are cancer.  I have one every time my doctor checks.  They get pretty big in me.  Had to have some removed surgically in 2011 because one was the size of a grapefruit and contained some funky stuff.  Despite being SURE I had cancer and crying all the way into the operating room...it wasn't cancer, just endometriosis.
