scared of losing weight and eating
« on: January 14, 2013, 07:01:09 AM »
I'm a petite girl and I don't weigh very much. Although I'm skinny like most asian girls, I'm not severely underweight. However I have a fear of losing weight because I tend to think that I'd be very malnourished and I'd faint from being too weak. I know it's irrational and that I'm not going to die. But the pressure of eating more to combat this fear and caused me to fear eating altogether.

My psychologist has told me to eat however much I want and not worry about my weight so much. I guess I'm a bit obsessed about my weight. Is there anything that you can suggest to help with my eating habits? I want to eat without always having a panic attack. I get stressed about eating that I don't eat very much.

Thankyou

I would say I am a skinny white male. Can't say I eat that much either. But what I find helps is eating smaller amounts more times every day. Some people like one big meal. Then the normal ordinary meals daily. I tend to have my set times for eating. The amounts are nearly always the same. I am eating. Maybe not as much as the average person. But I may eat a few more smaller meals than your average person, who would shovel it all away in one go. Just try and break your meals up. Various times of the day. You will get used to it once you do it for a few weeks. Even a nibble here and there is better than nothing at all. And worry not about you look. I know I am skinny. But I don't care. About how others view me. I am happy with who I am. That can be an important part of things too. I am sure you will work something out. Keep us posted.

I agree with the post above. Also, it's really good to have a set time every day for each meal, whether having big meals or little ones throughout the day. It can actually bring a sense of comfort, if that makes any sense. You can be okay thinking "Okay, at this time I will eat." And it becomes a comfortable habit. I like doing that, because my life is very dysfunctional and crazy and it's nice to know there is one thing that is according to plan. I think you just need to stay positive- you are perfect the way you are, you need to eat in order to stay healthy, and food is not the enemy. (:
