Fear of skyscrapers?
« on: January 13, 2013, 08:52:49 PM »
Does anyone else have a strong fear of skyscrapers? I thought it was because I'm petrified of heights, but I've realized it's not just that (although I AM quite afraid of heights). If I look up at a skyscraper, or walk under one, my anxiety shoots up for no reason. I remember watching 9/11 on the news as a little girl (I live a safe distance away in Utah, mind you) and I think it may have sparked from that, although I can't be sure. Does anyone ever feel like this?

I live in Ireland and we don't really have such things over here. But if we did I could imagine myself been much like you. Just looking at them on tv. They are huge. I wouldn't be able to go up in one of them. That much I know for sure. Even standing on ground level surrounded by them I could imagine a strange sort of fear. But I would be the exact same with those huge motorways they have in the US as well. We have a few four lane motorways here. I hate been in a car in the middle lane. Guess we all have our weird little quirks. Just glad we don't have any skyscrapers over here in Ireland. But if we did it would be a case of how to get around the fear. That could involve not looking upwards. Just keeping your eyes straight ahead. Don't try and take in everything that is around you. The more you see the more frightened you might become. As for 9/11? I think it was a once off happening. Hope so anyway. Never ever expected to happen. Can't see it happening again. I did watch a documentary called ' man on a wire '. It is about a tightrope walker who placed a line from one tower to the other and then went on walk between the two towers. Guess he has no anxiety problems.  :laugh3:

Hahaha! Not looking up, I could probably manage. Tightrope walking might be a bit much for me.  :laugh3:
