Constant Muscle Tension
« on: January 13, 2013, 08:16:58 PM »
I've been a bit more stressed than usual lately, and my upper back, shoulders, and neck have consequently become constantly tense. I can force myself to relax the muscles, but within five seconds they involuntarily lock up again. It's not painful, but the tension does make me constantly dizzy, which worries me as I also have issues with health related anxiety. I've been for massages, and they help for about fifteen minutes before my muscles tense up again. Curious if anyone here has dealt with this and has any advice on how to relax my muscles!

One of the tell tale signs of my panic is when i suddenly notice that my shoulders are about 2 inches higher than normal (because i'm tensed up).  The only thing that helped my was exercise.  The release helped me throughout the day.

Muscle relaxation mp3s are super helpful to me. Also, throughout the day try to become aware of any muscle groups that are tense and focus on relaxing them every 15 minutes.

That's a nice video for progressive relaxation.

I have this too and try to be aware throughout the day and consciencely relax them. also I listen to relaxation/ mediation sounds and when I'm really wound up I do self hypnosis. All these can be found as apps for free or very cheap for iPad in the store, the android has a few too but generally the App Store has the best and most to choose from. They work really well for me.
