Decreased Fatty Hilum in Lymph Node...Concerned...
« on: January 13, 2013, 02:09:17 AM »
I went in for an ultrasound of some swollen nodes under my arm which I got after a series of vaccinations on my left side. Most of them looked okay, but one of them had a "decreased fatty hilum"--basically, the part of the node that was supposed to look like a thin ring looked more like a bagel, since the inner core had decreased. Because of this, I have to go back for a follow-up in 8 weeks. Does anybody know if it's possible to have decreased fatty hilum and/or a thickened cortex in your nodes without it being cancer? :(

Given that they were the result of a vaccination and didn't just pop up on their own I'd say you probably have little to worry about.  I think getting those sorts of nodes rechecked is standard procedure - if your doctor thought it was serious he'd biopsy it right away instead of waiting eight weeks.

I don't actually know what your result means though...I tried googling it just to figure out what the hell a fatty hilum is, and I'm still not clear on it.
