Really Scared- Brain Tumor 15 Year Old- New Here
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:33:58 AM »
Hi Guys & Girls,

I will try and make this as short as possible so I dont bore everybody.
About 4 months ago I broke out into a rash that lasted about 6 days . On the 5th day I went toa doctor this wasnt my normal doc as he was on holiday.  The doctor I saw was explaining how he thinks it may be miengiccoal ( I didnt have any symptoms) this made me worry. A few days later the rash went and I was fine.  I was really stressed for a good week, then I started getting dizzy abou  10 days later and thay finaly went I was thinking every little thing was serious,  then about 2 months ago I started getting these little shorst headachs maybe last 1 minute at max and isnt painful but I get scared knwing they are there. After 2 weeks of having these little pains I went to one of thr best doc in WA and he laughed at me when I ask about brain tumor and said don't think about them drink wayer and get my dad to massage my neck with tiger balm. Istill gget them but when I dont think as much they seem to subside but I stil gey them. Every little ache and pain I get really worried.  Eg a few days ago i was getting muscle twitching and was scared! :traurig001:
The  my legs felt week (pretty sure that was from my beach walk) I just want to have my fun life back again  and dont want to die so young!
Thanks again guys in advance!

I'm sorry you've gotten yourself so scared.  I have 6 kids == three who are teens.

Let me tell you that my fam has a history of brain tumors--my dad and my sis.  my eldest has a severe brain abnormality.  I know several other peeps who have or fam had brain tumors.  So I KNOW neuro issues.  AND what you are describing is NOT brain tumor.

anxiety/stress cause all kinds of disconcerting sensations--like dizziness PLUS tons, tons more.  those little short headaches are not indicative of a brain tumor either.  Muscle twitching is VERY, VERY common with stress and anxiety.  it is just the result of muscles and nerves under stress or just some ole nerve getting nervy.  we all do this.  my 16 year old talks about her muscles doing this too.  I twitch.  back in '97 I was a twitching fool.

put twitching in the search bar here and you'll see pages and pages of peeps focusing on twitching and attributing just about every neuro nasty to them and dismissing the actual cause of them.

believe me brain tumors are bossy, insistant creatures.  docs don't miss them

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

first of all you don't have any symptoms of a brain tumor let alone  would you have others by now

secondly realize that sometimes we just have weird things happen to our bodies because, well, our bodies are not perfect sometimes we just have hitches in our giddyups and it means NOTHING at all. we are not guaranteed that our bodies are going to feel perfect all of the time OR really any of the time.  Headaches are often just headaches.  twitches are just twitches.

thirdly what are you doing to deal with the faulty thinking that is causing or exacerbating your physical discomforts?  as we know anxiety doesn't just go away. we have to take the appropriate steps to get this sort of thing under control or managed better.

I am just trying to block it out whenever it comes into my mind.

Do you have any tips?

Plus I am using Tiger Balm for my neck muscles and drinking about 1.2 litres of water a day.

Thanks,  I have been reading this article about 1 week ago and it helped me for a couple of days.

I think my main fear is my mind telling me "what if this is the start of the the tumoor"

what if-ing is the hallmark of anxiety disorder.

Yes I have many tips on how to get through anxiety disorders.  ONE is going to be, since you are 15, that you have a serious conversation with your parents about your anxiety disorder.  Then I think it would be highly beneficial that your parents get you into counseling---with a qualified therapist.... from there you need to utilize other tools to keep you from jumping to illogical scenarios such as having a brain tumor with NO cause.  some of the other tools are:  exercise, engaging in meaningful life (Ie: hobbies, sports, volunteer activities, clubs at school etc) meditation, self-help books, yoga. all, ALL, of these entail months and then years of maintaining your commitment to changing your mindset and habits and learning what stress and anxiety do to a body  IT will never be a 1, 2, 3 and you are all done forever and ever.  this doesn't mean you live life in misery.  it means that you learn how to manage the faulty thinking, recognize triggers (but don't allow them to become an excuse) and deal more effectively rather than jumping to disease scenarios.

I don't know one thing about tiger balm.  but what I do know is that anxiety causes all kinds of muscle tension and such.  what eases such things most is using the tools listed above over TIME

I have spoken to them and they think that I should get over it. I try....

I just need somebody to tell me "hey you are 100% do not have a tumor"

Then I would be happy and move on

I think I just need some words to get me through; e.g tumors would have shown symptoms bu now etc.

Sixpack, can a tumor start from these little headaches?  Or if it was woul I be in hospital right now?

It sounds like your doctor did say that you 100% don't have a tumor.  If he thought there was a chance you could have a tumor he wouldn't have told you to treat it with Tiger Balm.

Hey Carlton, all I can say is this..you're 15 and for you to think that you have something this serious at this age is quite silly..these are the best years of you're life..they were mine..you should at o time at this age be having serious thoughts and worries like this..I hope you feel better

it is too bad your parents are not taking your anxiety disorder seriously.  This is not something to take lightly.  My son has been in counseling for a year and has made some very good progress.

none of us are doctors.  our 100% assurance would mean nothing to you in the long run.  You would be "assured" for maybe a day or a week or only for as long as you read the message.  that is what anxiety does.  that is how we anxious think.  that is part of what we must change in order to have lasting peace.

however if you want me, too, I will concur with your actual doctor that told you (laughed while doing so), that you do not have a brain tumor.  Although I am not laughing while saying it.

AGAIN brain tumors are bossy, insistent things.  they are not able to hide their presence.  EVERYBODY I know who's had tumors went to the doctors and the doctors KNEW there was something wrong upon examination.  The abnormal exams then led to CT scans and mris etc.  those tests revealed what the doctors already suspected.  The symptoms you describe are consistent with anxiety NOT a brain tumor.

Dude, while none of us has x-ray vision, NOTHING you are describing sounds like a brain tumor.  I'm going through a brain tumor panic myself right now (though I actually don't have headaches!), so I'm well-acquainted with their symptoms right now.

One-sided weakness (confirmed by doctor, sending me to the neuro next week), vision disturbances (photophobia, palinopsia, ghosting, afterimages, blurred vision; I've had these things to some extent for years but suddenly they've worsened), bizarre things going on with my face (I can't smile normally - when I try, I look like the Joker - when I smile my face cramps and my chin twitches.)   Also having so many series of hard twitches I worry about seizures but I can't tell.
