Extreme Fear Over Bacterial Meningitis
« on: January 12, 2013, 07:41:36 PM »
hey guys, for the past 5 days i had this itchy rash on my lower back and it is on my sides of my stomach etc. i have told my parent multiple times and my dad said that not to worry and that it isnt even that prominent, ofcourse have sever hypochrodria i was checking myself all the times for these spots,  ::) this is when it gets worse after i woke up today once again i checked my spots, i then noticed i had a kind of blood spot on my side and one on my pelvis, this ofcourse sent me back to google looking up meningitis and symptom checking and bassicaly completely freaking myself out. what is worse is i dont have back and neck problems since last year and now these spots come up i cant convince myself otherwise that i dont have have meningitis and that im not going to die and horrible death.  other than the spots i have had no other symptoms really, no temperature/fever no aches or paints except my usual back pain. need some sense knocked into me guys would appreciate it

thanks :-)

There's an old trick. Take a cup and roll it over the rash while applying pressure. If it turns white then it shouldn't be anything serious. But if it stays red then it's more likely to be related to something more serious.

Go ahead and Google it for more information. I hope this helps! I've had this fear before. It's a tough one to have.

thanks for replying if i roll a glass over the main rash that i have it dissapears and turns white, however if i roll it over the petechiea/blood spot that i have they don't dissapear so i kinda got mixed feeling/ reactions about it i dont think its anything serious but thats small part of my mind that likes to say YES UR GOING DIE FROM MENINGITIS, but seen as its been almost a day since the blood spot(s) came up and theres not other symptoms, usually with bacterial menigitis its like over ur body within hours and ur ill within like a few hours of symptoms showing  ::)

I had menegitis as a kid and I still remember the pain that I was in to this day (20 plus years later). It was honestly the worst pain (headache) I have ever experienced and I've had two babies.  So I'm not saying that your rash isn't something to have checked out, but I don't think it is menengitis if you don't have any other symptoms like that.

If you  had bacterial meningitis your parents would know you were sick enough to go to the doctor! My mom had it and she said the headaches are so bad she banged her head on the wall.

Meningitis is my worst fear! I've done extensive research on it, and from what I've read, once the rash shows up you would have an extremely high fever and you'd be in a ton of pain. So I think it's very, very unlikely that's what you've got.

100% sure without even seeing you, without being a doctor:  you don't have meningititis

fear doesn't cause this so no matter how afraid you are of this illness doesn't equal causation

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Meningitis is one of those things where you don't sit around wondering if you're sick.  You're flat on your back with a high fever, a neck so stiff you can't move your head and the worst headache you've ever had.
