Two nights ago I felt I needed to burp a few times .  Just little ones, like after you ate or drank something.  Well, that was followed up with a bout of hiccups.  I stupidly drank some Sprite during that episode.  Shortly after they stopped my voice was hoarse.  It sounded like the voice of a person with larygitis.  I went to bed and woke up with the smell of broccoli on my breathe.  I ate a couple of pieces earlier the day before.  I went about my morning and noticed deep in my throat burned.  It felt like acid had been washed over it.  It didn't feel like a sick-type sore throat.  This went on all day regardless of what I ate or drank.  I went to bed last night feeling the mild burning in my throat and my upper chest occassionally.  I tossed and turned all night and in certain positions I would feel the burning sensation start in my upper chest and move up to my throat and then I would let out a little burp that really burned and I could taste stomach acid.  It was the taste you get after you have vomited everything but the kitchen sink when you are sick.   I am really scared since I took Gaviscon several times and it did nothing. I had always heard you can tell the difference between heartburn and a heart attack because the pain or burning sensation in my case should go away if its heartburn when you take an antacid.  My didn't go away.  What do I do with that?  Please help.

If you had actually had a heart attack, I don't think you'd be worrying about it almost 2 full days later.   :P Anxiety ca definitely cause heartburn, especially if you focus on it and worry about it.

Everything you described sounds exactly like acid reflux and nothing like a heart issue. The specific type of antacid you took may not work for your body, or may not have been potent enough. Have you tried taking something else such as Pepcid AC? Also, try neutralizing the acid with some "basic" foods--milk, cheese, or even bread.

Does anyone else know how long it lasts?  Or what is normal for reflux.  It's been over a day of the burning feeling.  I'm on the verge of going to the ER because I'm scared of a heart attack.
