Baby really scared me! Anyone know what this is??

Okay guys, my baby really scared me tonight and I'm realizing now that this happened one time before. In the midst of bf my little guy he will suddenly choke on milk, it will sound awful enough that I will pull him upright and pat his back firmly. Once the coughing is resolved its as though my baby will completely fall asleep, become almost limp, is still breathing and has normal color but is really hard to rouse. This goes on for a few minutes before he opens his eyes and becomes alert again.

I have no idea why this happens but it happened a couple months ago and it really scares me! Has anyone else experienced this?? I don't see his doctor until Thursday.  I have health anxiety of my own so I hate that I'm now worrying about my child so much.

Sounds like he is really close to being asleep and takes one drink too many. . . Hence why he is fast asleep immediately after.

I agree, it is so scary when you have health anxiety and a child to go with it, but I'm sure it's just that the baby is almost asleep and gets choked because it doesn't quite swallow the last bit of milk!

I have nursed three children, and all of my children have choked at one point or another. Sometimes a few times in the same feeding. If you have overactive letdown this is very common. Also, if he is on the verge of sleeping, etc then he can start being a lazy nurser and have too much milk. Little ones can sometimes be hard to rouse, and he may just be in a deep sleep.

Choking does happen with little ones! I am still nursing our 2 year old and she still chokes occasionally.
