birth control/ blood clots/ bruises
« on: January 08, 2013, 03:19:32 PM »
So I need to be on Birth control.  I've been off since last March because I was done with the hormones and single.  I just got a new script for one with low hormones but I'm terrified of blood clots.  Another thing is I fell a few months ago and got a nasty bruise on my backside that turned into a lump.  I've heard that's a hematoma and nothing to really worry about.  It's gotten better. I think I may see my regular doc to put my mind at ease because I don't want my bruise turning into a clot.....Maybe that's silly?  I'm so upset about all this right now!  :fragend005:

Another thing I will add is I have anxiety and one of the symptoms of a clot is shortness of breath which I get when I'm anxious...so how do I tell the difference?!

For most people, the risk of blood clots is not that high even on birth control. You said the bruise has gotten better. I think it is very unlikely you would get a clot from that. I don't think you need to go to the doctor, but if you are very worried, it may help to talk to him or her about the signs of a clot.

I don't like birth control, have you tried looking into an IUD? I had a similar concern about the hematoma when I had a blood disorder, the PCP said that it is impossible for that to kill you, its just under your skin and thats where its going to stay until it heals. It won't travel.

My gyno won't do an IUD since I have never had children.  Thank you @annoywife21 for the info about the hematoma though!  Made me feel much better!

I have NEVER heard that before, my friend had an IUD for years and had it removed to get pregnant with her first. I would check with another gyno. I have had 2 miscarriages and looked into it-it seems safer than birth control pills.
