10mg Lexapro doesn't seem to be working this time around......
« on: January 08, 2013, 01:15:40 PM »
I have been on 10mg Lexapro for about 4 years now. It has worked amazing for my anxiety/depression. Like an idiot I just stop taking it thinking I will am fine since I don't have any symptoms of the anxiety/depression.

And what do you know last week it reared it's ugly head! I started taking it again last week (Wednesday) and hasn't seemed to do anything.

Am I just being impatient? I know I have read sometimes it takes weeks to work, but I have gone cold turkey before and it seemed it kicked in within a few days, but not this time. I am visiting the doctor today so I am hoping we can get something figured out.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, your probably are being impatient. Give it a few more weeks. Also be aware than it is increasingly becoming clear that many antidepressants don't work as well the second time around so may need a higher dose to achieve the same results as the first time. The initial side-effects can also be different and more severe than before.

Anxiety disorder and depression are most often chronic conditions that wax and wane, but don't completely go away. If you don't want to take antidepressants to control them, psychotherapies such as CBT are at least as effective and should be undertaken before quitting meds.

Please don't. Ever. If you wish to discontinue an antidepressant wean off it, preferably with the approval and guidance of the prescribing doctor.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.

I have been on Lexapro now for a week and seems like the anxiety/depression is getting worse. Is this normal?

I take the Lexapro at 8 P.M. everynight.  Last night around 5 P.M. I felt really good until I went to sleep, than the anxiety kicked back in around 11 P.M. Does anyone know what thats about?

Give it time, bro. I was on it a good twelve weeks the second time before it helped my anxiety. I'm not saying it will be that long for you, but don't give up yet.

FWIW, this is my third time and we are going on 15 weeks and I still don't think it has reached its max effectiveness, so I may up the dose.
