on the merry go round
« on: January 07, 2013, 10:11:56 PM »
I haven't posted here in quite a while, so long that many of you probably don't recognize my name. I'm kind of thankful for that! Anyway, I need some help, to be talked off of the ledge.  We spent the holidays in Florida with our daughter and grandkids. The third day we were there I ended up really sick with gastritis. For a day and a half I spent my time either in the bathroom vomiting or otherwise, sleeping, and drinking Gatorade. It was miserable. Anyway, about as soon as I was feeling human I ended up taking my daughter to the ER for an emergency appendectomy! We finished out our trip quietly, thank God, and came home. During the plane ride home, I started to have really strange, burning pains in my upper abdomen. Lots of gurgling going on. Well, we've been home for over a week and this hasn't stopped. Sometimes, like now, it's quite intense. Sometimes, it's just background noise. I've got both IBS and GERD so stomach issues aren't foreign to me. I'm getting very anxious because this doesn't seem to want to go away. I'm not running fever, my BP is within normal ranges...and my mind is running away with all kinds of horrible scenarios. I'm wondering if any of the rest of you may have experienced this type of stuff and, what did you do about it? Thanks for any kind thoughts.

I have IBS and GERD also and I have had that happen to me after having gastritis (or a stomach bug).  Sometimes it has taken a full month for me to get straightened out.  I'm sure it has occurred to you, but don't you think it could also be some leftover stress from all you went through?  It sounds very stressful to me!  I usually take probiotics and metamucil to get things right again.  I have noticed that I am ok while stressful things are going on but the anxiety hits later when everything seems calm.  Maybe that's what  is happening to you?  I hope you feel better very soon

I think your name may be wrong, you don't seem looney to me!!  :happy0151: Thanks so much for your helpful answer. You have nailed exactly what is happening with me. During the day at work the symptoms are more like background noise. Once I get home and relax, it is much more pronounced. I will do my best to remain calm and let my body return to normal in it's own time. You've been a huge help, thank you!!
