How do we know when to worry??
« on: January 07, 2013, 09:39:29 PM »
Seems I'm on a posting roll.

I've now gotten to the point where I honestly don't know when to worry, and when not to. As I'm in the throws of a lymphoma scare, I feel like every ache or pain I feel in my body sends me a little into a tailspin. Does anyone know what I mean?

I feel something and I either a) try to work it into a framework of an existing worry, or b) come up with a new one. I seem to have totally lost my ability to dismiss anything (almost) I feel, whatsoever.

I might be asking the wrong group :), but, does anyone know how to get past this? The most I can figure is, if it were something serious, there would be no mistaking it...

There are many many posts on this forum about how to get past health anxiety or at least to manage it.  It takes hard work and dedication and there is no magic.  I've posted about this at length as have many other posters such as Sixpack, FloridaGuy65, Vardnas and others.

I know what you mean. If I know that something is likely to be anxiety then I can rationalise it pretty much now. But there are times when it's not so easy to tell if it's really something wrong or a product of health anxiety. It can be very difficult to distinguish sometimes and know when you should consult a doctor or not.
