Worried about appendix
« on: January 06, 2013, 09:30:55 PM »
I don't mean to be anxious and let myself make this out to be more than it is, but I'm a little worried that something might be wrong with my appendix. I'm having sharp pain on the right side near my belly button. The pain is like cramps that stop for a few minutes then come back. But they're pretty painful and very sharp. I've not heard much about appendicitis and I am starting to get very worried about it. It's been this way for maybe an hour. I'm just waiting around to see if it gets any worse...

I had my appendix out a few decades ago, but I can say that an appendicitis attack is something you will absolutely KNOW something is wrong - you will not question it.  The pain is excruciating.  That being said - if it continues and you feel that uncomfortable, maybe you need to seek medical help.  If it's something that is just "uncomfortable" and not excruciating, it could be IBS symptoms or even something as simple as gas.

I had my appendix out. Thats not how my appendicitis started. It starts elsewhere and doesn't really move to the lower right side until farther along, and by that time you'd KNOW something was wrong. It doesn't come and go, the pain starts and gets progressively worse.

Honestly, I think everyone is different with appendicitis...  I had it 5 yrs ago and had a bad stomach ache and no appetite that got worse.  I thought maybe it was the clam chowder I had for lunch.  No vomitting or diarrhea for me, just a bad pain.  We had my husband's office Xmas party that night and I knew I couldn't go.  He really didn't think I needed to go to the ER (and he's a doctor), but I knew I had to go.  Long story short, my appendix was very "juicy" the surgeon said.  Funny enough, this was before my days of HA.  I was calm, cool and collected. Possible appendicitis isn't to be messed with.  You know your body, just like I knew that night that something was wrong.

I just had my appendix out. I was not in excuciating pain. Appendicitis presents itself in many different ways. For me, I just had a dull ache on my right side that would come and go. My husband thought I should get it checked out just in case. They pressed on that side and released and I still did not have pain. It was only when they did a CT Scan they found out it was inflammed. Because of that, I was able to have it removed laprascopically, and was able to go home that day. Recovery was about a week only. I am glad now that I had it out. Now I never have to worry about pains on my right side and my appendix. I was having those pains off and on for a while, and just ignored them thinking it was my IBS or gas. Even if it is your appendix, it is a very simple procedure. I was laughing because usually people get theirs out when they are young. I was 44. Not many people my age gets their appendix out. But leave it to me  If it continues, just have it checked out.
