Is This OCD? I do not know what to do?
« on: January 06, 2013, 05:11:49 PM »
I do not know if I have OCD and I am new here, so hi everyone first of all. I have to do these tasks every day and night or I cannot rest. I don't know it its OCD or not. I have to clean my entire appartment from top to bottom every day and scrub the sinks, and all the doorknobs. I have to tap each faucet handle four times or I cannot move on without doing it. I have done this for years. I also have to enter rooms with my right foot, and will go out and back in again if I don't enter then this way. I also check all the locks on the doors and windows twice each. Sometimes the light switches too. But my main thing is I have to clean my bathroom multiple times. I cannot stand thinking it is not clean. Sometimes I have to get up at night to pour bleach or Bon Ami in the tiles to scrub them so they are shiny enough. I sometimes can't sleep or think about anything else but this. I have to have everything completely clean or I will have a panic attack. I get really angry if things aren't clean. The grout in the tiles in my bathroom has to stand out and be shiny or I think I have to do it over again. Is this OCD? And what can I do about it? I am not on any medication and I am ashamed to tell anyone about this. I want things clean but not to the point it is disrupting my life. What can I do?  :fragend005:

I cannot diagnose you, of course, but it does sound like OCD.  Since it is interfering with your life, it is time to get help.  I recommend finding a therapist or counselor or psychologist to talk to.  If money is an issue, check nearby universities.  Oftentimes, PHd students studying to be psychologists offer great rates.

OCD I would say. Tapping the faucet 4 times is definitely OCD.
