Terrible Migraine
« on: January 06, 2013, 04:36:06 PM »
I haven't had migraines all of my life so I'm still getting used to them since I was diagnosed about three years ago. Mainly my migraines are silent and I only get the nausea, face/eye heaviness and visual disturbances galore but no pain. Since I began with this condition, I've only had two painful episodes.

Well, last night was the third and it was a doozy. I had had the warning signs all day that this was going to be bad but I ignored it, which I shouldn't have done. I didn't take medication or used my cold pack. I also ate an apple after the pain got progressively worse even though I can't eat anything, no matter how small, once the pain begins.

Needless to say I had a terrible night last night. My head was about to explode on my right side. Nothing I did stopped the excruciating pounding and sharp jabs of pain. I thought I was going to have to go to the ER. I was sobbing in pain. I tried to sleep but the pain was so horrible that the pillow hurt my head. Laying down makes it worse for some reason but I haven't mastered sleeping while standing yet. My neck was a tight ball of nerves that continued sending explosive pain into the side of my head. I basically felt like I dying would be a God send at that moment.

Still being stubborn, I never took medicine for it. I had terrible nightmares all night long because the pain wasn't letting me sleep. I kept dreaming that I couldn't swallow or hadn't taken in a breath. My face felt numb. Even my hair hurt.

Does anyone else here experience painful migraines? I just want to know if my symptoms are similar to others so I don't feel so alone.

I've had migraines for 11 years of my life, so I absolutely know what you're going through. And as I am also stubborn about taking medication until I absolutely have to (sometimes, the side effects are almost as bad as the pain), I have had a few very, very painful migraines. One sent me to the ER last week.

These are all common symptoms - I have been through them all and more, and they're just exacerbated by the anxiety. I feel your pain.

I have had migraines since childhood. I've learned at least one lesson: take the medication at the first sign I a migraine. It works better that way and why suffer if you don't have to?

Thank you for the replies. It makes me fell better to know that my symptoms are consistent with others who have migraines too. Even though I have been to two neuros, sometimes anxiety can make you second guess your ailments.

I am better now but I still feel like I'm getting over the flu or something. That's how bad the pain was. Its left me literally, weak and feeling sick a day later.
