cymbalta users...
« on: January 06, 2013, 02:51:16 PM »
I take my Cymbalta in the early afternoon. Right about that time almost every day, I get jittery, like I'm tripping on a large starbucks. one day I even felt nauseated. I upped from 30mg to 60mg about 2 weeks ago. I seem to remember this happening when I tried Vibryyd too. I do drink 2-3 cups of coffee every am.

Has anyone else had this happen? Just trying reassure myself it's not something more serious...

Another thing that's disturbing me...how common is extreme flatulence with Cymbalta? I do have tummy troubles but this is over the top at times. With ha, any side effects can send me into a downward spiral, just being honest.

Cymbalta (duloxetine) only comes in a slow-release formulation so builds up slowly after being taken. As with most drugs, it doesn't begin to enter the bloodstream until about 30 minutes after swallowing.

I suspect that the jitters may be withdrawal symptoms, possibly amplified by caffeine. Despite being slow-release, Cymbalta has a short half-life, only around 12 hours, so, IMHO, you'd be better taking half the dose in the morning and the other half in the evening. If this isn't possible, take the lot in the morning so that any withdrawal symptoms occur while you're sleeping.

If you're a smoker be aware that nicotine reduces the effects of duloxetine by as much as a third, and that it and alcohol aren't a good mix. Your liver in particular will thank you if you avoid booze.

Not a good idea if you have an anxiety disorder.

Flatulence is listed as one of the less common side-effects. Hopefully, as with most side-effects it will diminish after a few weeks.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.
