Struggling after being stabbed....
« on: January 05, 2013, 07:01:17 PM »
Last year I was teaching(TA) at WVU and proceed to break up a fight between two you individuals.   After the altercation was split up, one of the individuals gets angry and slits my throat with a box cutter.  I went into emergency surgery where GOD and the doctors saved my life.    I was 300 miles away from my family and I spent every second in the ambulance praying to the LORD above.   Without him, and the blessed medical staff at WVU i would not be here.

Until a few months ago, I very seldom felt anxious or worried until one day it just hit me.   I felt like i was having a heart attack, my chest felt like it was caving in, and I was panicing.    These attacks have been more and more frequent, even such that I have 1-2 a day now.  I even panic when I worry about having one they are so awful.

I was recently prescriped Celax and Xanax to help.  The Xanax is instant relife, but I dont want to become reliant on benzos to live a daily life.   If anyone cares to share any info or advice, I would greatly appreciate.

Are you seeing a therapist? If not, I'd try to find one who specializes in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Glad to hear you've recovered from your physical wounds  :happy0151:

I agree with Jwalls, you are a walking miracle, anytime a tramatic expierence happens, there is a good chance anxiety will happen....you stared death in the face...that's pretty scary,it's not a crime to take meds until you figure it all out....God Bless    Joey M
