Afraid to google my dizziness symptoms...advice?
« on: January 04, 2013, 10:30:01 PM »
For about a week and a half, I have been dizzy.  It's not bad enough that I fall down or run into things, but it is always there. My sister died of a brain aneurysm when she was 35, (I am 34) so that along with clots, strokes, tumors, always worry me.  I have been getting headaches more than usual and, on occasion, get a sharp pain on the right and top of my head. I get ear pain every now and again too, but nothing like an ear infection would feel.  I hate to google these symptoms because it will tell me I am dying of brain cancer and that is all I need!  lol  Has anyone experienced this same kind of thing?  What did it turn out to be?

Because I can't go to the dr every time I think something is wrong...that would be weekly.  If it does not stop by the end of next week, I will prob go.  For now, I just want to know if anyone else has had this.

I had chronic vertigo for over a month. I initially thought brain tumor and got an MRI. I then thought it was sinuses and was so frustrated when the doctor found no sign of drainage or inflammation in my ears. I took Claritin daily hoping for my symptoms so subside. Some days were better than others. Then I noticed headaches and neck tension. Had my boyfriend give me deep (painful!!) massage on my shoulders and neck for a few nights before bed then put icy hot on top it. I was not intendiń my vertigo to go away I just wanted the tension out of my neck but lo and behold the vertigo was gone and I haven't had it since! (Except if I have a bout of panic but it goes away briefly after that). It may be worth a shot to you! It took a few days for it to work for me so be patient and stay positive! Easier said than done, I the worst about googling. So I had my boyfriend block safari on my phone and I won't use my laptop at home. If I have worries I come here or call my mom and let her research and its so much more calming than googling and thinking I have an immediate death sentence.

Hope you get to feeling better :)

anxiety/stress causes dizziness and headaches along with a slew of other things.

you are likely feeling such things because of what happened to your sister.  Most of my ha fears revolved around neuro issues because my dad died of a brain tumor at 46.  I've made it to 49 but I know my mid 40's were dicey at times.  OR you could have sinus issues or ear issues.  But as km alluded to, we can't tell you what is 100% for sure what is going on.  When are you due for your annual physical?  If you haven't been or are due, make your appointment and get a once over.  While there, you could ask the GP what you can do for your anxiety disorder and perhaps ask for some recs for therapists in the area.

DO NOT GOOGLE.  If you do, you will get what you are asking for, more panic and fear.

What are you doing about your anxiety disorder?  What reactive habits can you abandon?  What proactive habits (long term) can you adopt to getting to feeling better?

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Dizziness is a VERY common side effect of anxiety..

I had dizziness for months, it worried me & this is what caused it to continue, I focused all my attention & energy on wondering why I felt dizzy that I was making the problem worse, of course I also had a huge fear of brain tumours , strokes etc.

If you google it i can tell you now what you will find, you will read up on all the worst possible scenarios, such a cancer stroke brain tumours etc. but if you google sore throat, runny nose or other common in serious problems you will also be told horrible & terrible diseases that these are symptoms off.

Basically what I am trying to say is please don't worry, dizziness is a common anxiety symptom! The more you worry about it the worse it becomes! I had it for months! Even wen i tought I wasn't anxious! It eventually passed with out me even realising. Google will only furl your mind with horrible outcomes.

Take a few deep breaths, a glass of water and if possible a lie down. Keep your head high & continue on. This will pass!

Yes, I had "unexplained" dizziness when I was in my "convinced I had a brain tumor" phase. It went away when I stopped being obsessed with a brain tumor and moved on to a different disease. So yes, anxiety can cause it for sure.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister. That's a common fear to have because of your sudden lost. My anxiety right now and fear is having an anyerisum it takes over my whole day and all I do is worry what if I have one I freak out with any little feeling or pain in my head and it's driving me crazy! I've also been dizzy do the past 2 weeks now but I know it's from having the flu and also from a sinus infection. It's gotten a little better but the worry and anxiety of having an anyerisum scares me so bad :( I hope your feeling better. I would try the massage as others suggested. If you have any advice for me I would love to hear it.
