agoraphobia
« on: January 04, 2013, 03:50:01 PM »
hey guys. thank in advance.

I have had agoraphobia gotten better get it again gotten better, ect but each time I get better I do less.

anyway.....here it is.

I have a phobia like this. I think about the earth being round. I feel like I am on a constant hill. if you look at the earth there is no flat. now before I would say gravity sucks you down and it makes it flat for a while then after a while its gradually and barley. but I think about being on a constant hill on the world. like I am not on flat ground but when you views the earth it is a circle and there is no flat or evenness. this is the thing that bothers me and keeps me from doing things. like when you look straight ahead your looking down.

most people view it as flat. when they see the earth they think that is space...we are here....were it is flat and even and dont view it like they are on a ball but its so vast its like your not.

OK. I am having trouble even understanding your problem. You know the earth is round, per say. But to us in every day life it is flat. You do understand gravity and the reason why we don't fall off the earth as such. But your fear is it about this gravity? Or are we talking a sort of virtigo problem. You look around you and things can seem out of whack with the mind. You;ll have to educate us a bit more. Is it your fear that gravity will fail us some day? I mean as far as symptoms of any anxiety condition is concerned it sounds like derealization. Which can make things seems distorted. Make things seems distant. Make people hold on to walls as they walk along as through their eyes the world can seem out of shape. If you can put your fear in one word would it be ' gravity '? Just trying to understand. I recall Columbus once thinking if he sailed so far across the sea he would fall off the edge of the world. But life has progressed a lot since then. We know a lot more. And we know such things are impossible. Hence I ask how you see life. A person with derealization would see a more distorted form of life. Any roads. Fill in the gaps. Let us know a bit more. We may be able to get to the bottom of your situation.

ok to us which only really matters everything is flat. I think about being on the earth and it being completey up and down. not from sky to ground but from what is in front you and behind you. like you constantly are going up and down when mostly everyone else looks at it like flat. for instance you go outside. what is across from you or in front of you is across and what is behind you in behind you. I sometime think about it being up and down instead of across or behind you. thinking about it always being up or down and not across and behind you or even and flat. its like I dont look at it from here I look at what it would be from space or from an earth picture.

I know this is dumb. I know its agoraphobia but I worry about it and keep its keep from doing much of anything. I think we think we are flat but we are not we are actually we are fooled because gravity makes us think it is but it is one big up and down.

if I knew we were sucked down and its actually flat or even for a mile I could be so much better. like we are not sucked down at an angle compared to what I said in the previous post. another thing is are we sucked down flat or at an angle onto the earth from what I was talking about.

Have you ever seen a professional to get an opinion on your problem? Head doctor of any sort. That may be able to make sense of the whole situation for you.

most forums like these have better info than any doctor or anyone can give you minus the medicine.

its simple agoraphobia. sounds simple but isnt. scared of open spaces. then you start to think. then you get in trouble. the last presidential election and all the crap going on with it set me back. however no anxiety on 12/21/12....lol.

Hi theguy,
I also have agoraphobia and we do tend to over think everythink as an excuse to not leave our home and for you it is Ocding about the Earth which to me is quit facinating if we really think about it and how the Earth is round and no one falls off.. so what you have to do since you have tried therapy and you have had it for 14 years is see if there is anyone in your area that will come to your home I had one come to mine, some places will do that.
You have to do alot of self talk and take small steps out that door and not focus so much on the earth and know you will be ok ..very easy to say I know right.. I know because I am told the same lol.. I do leave the house to shop or visit my parents that live about 35 mins from me..
We have to either face the fears or keep living like we are and I know it is not a fun life.. I live it.
I have had to face more going out in the last few months since I do have some medical issues that need taken care of.

The world is a scary place but there is also alot of good left in people and places .. The Earth is very beautiful and created so perfect only mankind has ruined it but you can still find so many beautiful things out there.. once we stop therapy or refuse to try meds then we either sat and keep doing what we are doing or break free and fight to have a fun, happy life.

Good Luck and Take care,Please take some steps of faith and walk out into the world!

I take meds. I have had therapists at the house. right now its just the worse it has been in someways. usually I try everyday to do more but now just doing what I am is enough. I am not worried about falling off right now. but I guess we are here and really that is all there unless I want to view the world from space which why bother. we are here and that is where we are suppose to be. plus being winter also doesnt help because I love being outside all day.

yes that is a part of it but we need it so maybe I dont fear it but maybe the concept of why we need it. I fear maybe the curve of the earth. does the earth go straight down and we are slanted down onto it on a slant or are we sucked straight down and the curve it little by little. my problem is are we slanted onto it and it curves straigt down. kind of like standing on a wall

or where we are at.....we are sucked straight down and it curves little by little as we move a little futher away.

thanks for the info guys. seems like a lot of people cannot understand that without a drawing of it.

I know its an irrational fear. I know the for sure but I still have a problem with it.

99% of people you couldnt even get them to fear this. I know this is a phobia and anxiety conidition.

Can I ask what you are like when outside of your house walking along? Do you ever feel like you are going to fall. Does it appear as if the ground is further away from than it really is? Or maybe neither of these at all. Just trying to see life through your eyes. Once you leave your house. With the thoughts you have in your head I assume it would effect life outside the house. Thinking that something could happen at any moment. Assuming the world is as you think it to be. Your life and my life would differ. As I don't think like you. Mind you I think you would hard pressed to find anybody who thinks like you. Like you say it is just irrational thinking. And it is up to you to tell yourself this. To try and distract your thoughts when you do have them. Change them to other thoughts. It may take time. But it can be done. Then you will walk the same earth as the rest of us.

well sometime I get a falling feeling. I get a downward feeling. not like me downward onto the ground the but the whole world downward. I know I wont fall. but the feeling of that downward and the whole world being actually downward or upward is my fear.

most look outwards. I look at it as downwards or upwards when I get anxious or think about it being like that. now I know that is somethin that  I refuse to accept so I am getting out a little and talking to myself. little by little conquer small areas. I need to figure out an antidote to secure myself mentally.

I need to be happy with little by little and not worry I am not a doing a little more than I am.
