When they take blood in the ER...
« on: January 04, 2013, 12:26:55 AM »
Are they doing a CBC? I remember they took blood when I went to the ER last march complaining of stomach issues. Are they checking for something specific or do they do everything? I am worried bc I haven't had a blood count in two years if that one didn't count. I don't remember seeing anything on my bill, but what exactly are they doing?

Struggled on and off since I was 13 (27 now) with health anxiety and OCD. Current episode has been going since December 2011. Praying that it will end soon and I can go back to normal life.

Probably a CBC among other things related to specific symptoms. Have they told you what they would be testing you for? At the very least, a CBC.

My doctor once told me that typically when you go the ER with a complaint, and they take blood,
protocol is to do a CBC, among other things. If you go in for a cardiac issue, they check for certain
enzymes, do a CBC, check glucose, etc.

See if you could find an urgent care clinic. They are walk in, considerably cheaper than the ER, open in most places until at least 5-7pm usually 9pm and it's like a regular doctors office with a lab, xrays, etc... I went and they did a CBC, checked my Thyroid, and ran my electrolytes.. I get the results of the Thyroid and Electrolytes today.
