Want to introduce myself
« on: January 03, 2013, 05:31:33 PM »
Hi everyone! I want to introduce myself as I've been finding this site to be very inspirational and motivational so far. I'm a 29 year old stay at home mother of 3 young girls (8, 3, 1). I have been dx'd with OCD, PTSD, GAD, panic disorder, and PNES, all on top of epilepsy since childhood. I used to be a bartender in a nightclub until my panic attacks forced me to quit my job at stay at home. By stay at home I mean, never leave the house. I have been in several types of therapy for the last 2 years, CBT, DBT, exposure therapy, psycho analyzing. . . to name a few, to no prevail. I am currently in an intensive outpatient group therapy that is 13 hours per week. The group therapy does nothing more than give you a place to feel welcome and not-so-crazy since everyone there has similar vices. I haven't been able to try any SSRI's or SNRI's due to negative side effects when they mix with my AED's (seizure meds), but I'm really hoping my neuro and PDOC can come together and find a combo for me that will work. I also suffer from chronic migraine which I've only been treating with Tylenol/Ibuprophen as I need to. I hope to find people that can relate and share their journey without judgement.  :happy0151:

Welcome! This forum has been a blessing to me, just so I don't feel so all alone in my "craziness". It's comforting to know that there are others out there who are struggling through the same issues and are having the same thoughts. I hope it helps you as well!

my eldest has a seizure disorder.  she is on 3 anti-seizures and has tried just about all of them at one time or another.  She is also on prozac in hopes to help with ocd type behavior.  Although with my daugthers brain abnormalities, prozac is more like a hail mary.  she also takes risperdone for behavior too.

welcome aboard.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

I'm sorry about your daughter. How old is she? My daughter (is 3 now) started having seizures at 4 months. She hasn't had one in over a year (knock on wood). I also have tried about every AED under the sun, but they all gave me unbearable side effects. Even Trileptal, which is supposed to be one of the easiest ones with the least side effects. What kind of seizures does your daughter suffer from? And do you know the location? Mine are simple partial in the temporal lobe, so I am fully conscious when they occur. Although they are very brief, they are very frequent (several a day) and I'm sure that a lot of the activity that my neurologist says are seizures are in fact anxiety related, as the symptoms of temporal seizures and anxiety are almost identical. Go figure! I hope the best for your daughter and thank you for your response! Hope to see you around!   :happy0151:

my daughter is 25.  she was born with a significant brain malformation.  So she has quite a few issues in her life.  She is about like a 2yr old in many ways.  Then add a lot of autistic-like tendencies and you have my daughter.  We were told that she would almost certainly develop seizures by the time she was 2 or 3.  Luckily she didn't start having seizures until puberty.  she was 12 or 13.   She has seizures all over her brain--mulitple foci.  I don't know if she has simple partials because she is non-verbal so can't tell me.  She has atonic (controlled by depakote THANK the LORD), tonic/clonic, and complex partials. Some of the complex partials progress into generalized seizures.  Her tonic/clonics will last about 5 minutes.  She'll have 1 or 2 of those a month.  Most of the seizures she has are complex partials.  they will last less than a minute OR 4 minutes OR she'll have a flurry of them.  She may have as many as 10 or 15 in a month or just 2 or 3.  She is on three seizure meds presently--depakote, trileptal and potiga.

I am so sorry. I can't imagine going through something like that with my child. Stories like yours make me think twice about my insignificant mental illness. It's an eye opener, and I tend to forget that although I suffer in some ways, in other ways I have a blessed life. You daughter sounds like a very strong woman. Damn it, now I'm in tears. . .I sincerely hope the best for her and for you and your whole family. It takes some Godly strength to be able to keep your head on in a situation such as yours. I will remember you and your daughter the next time I start to think I have it so terrible.

oh,

thank you for your kind words.  but don't be sad or cry.

we all have trials and tribulations in life.  We also have immense JOY.

Everybody has more strength than he/she thinks.

what peeps with anxiety spend an inordinate amount of time doing is ruminating 'what ifs' all of the time.  When we actually end up with a less than nice diagnosis, we do well with these things most often.  the reality is never quite as bad as the fear.   ANxiety is a liar afterall.
