Migraine headache after panic attack passes
« on: January 03, 2013, 12:23:17 PM »
This happens to me after almost every Panic Attack. (see title if you dont understand what im talking about).
I found that taking an Aspirin at the onset of the headache clears it right up.
I usually take one 500 mg pill.
does this happen to any of you? do you have any insight of experience to share?

sometimes ill get headaches after having a panic attack. i chalk it up to the fact your heart is beating so hard the blood is moving around faster and stuff, causing the pounding headache.  also when you have panic, all the blood tends to rush to your internal organs, away from your extremities so could also cause lightheadedness. it could also be because of how we tend to tense up all our muscles during panic, especially the neck and shoulders.

sorry if that doesnt answer your question or help at all, just wanted to let you know i get it too and some possible reasons behind it :)

Thanks for commenting. yes those are valid reasons for having headaches after a panic attack. so when you get those headaches what do you do about it?

by the way i think lightheadedness is caused by the over-breathing of a panic attack.
because the body (expecting a struggle or an escape) is moving CO2 out of the body quicker.
some CO2 pressure in the blood in needed for normal function.
thats what a doctor told me in the ER when i had my first panic attack. thats why controlling your breathing(that means timing your breathing instead of giving in to the need to breath heavily) in a panic attack is very helpfull to control symptoms.

im the opposite. when im really anxious or panicking i tend to hold my breath or breath really shallow...which im sure would cause the pigheadedness also lol

if its a really bad headache, ill take an advil but if its not too bad ill just wait it out. i tend to get lots of headaches so i just kinda grin and bear it if i can because i dont like to take too much pain killeres. if its a migraine though, i DEFIANTLY take something. sometimes ill have to take two extra strength advils to combat it and lay in the dark if i can.
