Headache? Csf leak?
« on: January 03, 2013, 08:49:39 AM »
I get these headaches once a month, a certain part of my head gets a dull but kinda sharp pain if that makes any sense, then it stop and feels really weird, almost like there is fluid coming out then I feel it in my mouth it has like a metallic taste a bit. I'm worried cause its so strange. Is this a csf leak it been happening since a year ago or so I'm so scared. I've also had cysts on my back of the neck for 6 months that keep going up and down and won't go away.

Which is why people with HA should not google their symptoms.

I don't think a CFS leak would cause a headache only once per month. I had a CFS leak last year after I had my daughter, the epidural caused it. I didn't even know I had one except I had an excruciating headache for about a week. I couldn't even move my head to take care of my newborn baby. The pain was horrifying. No pain medication, even morphine at the hospital would take the pain away. Finally, they did an epidural blood patch and the pain went away instantly. I guess the point is that a CFS leak wouldn't just hurt once in a while. I would hurt every day all day until you sought help. Good luck to you!

Honestly, it is probably a headache caused by stress. Neck tension is the A-number-1 cause of headaches.

I'm going to have to shoot down the CSF leak theory, too. I was once the caretaker of a man who suffered from cerebral palsy and part of his disease was CSF leak that caused hydrocephalus. He experienced pain so great that he could not get out of bed more often than not.

A word about googling symptoms:  as gcalex and others on here constantly mention, it's not a good idea for us hypos. There are many reasons to warn against it, not least of which is the fact that these medical websites rarely if ever provide the CONTEXT in which symptoms occur. I too looked up CSF leak to find out more about it, and yes the symptoms listed sound like the garden variety headache/migraine symptoms. What is not provided is a description of just how truly AWFUL you'd feel with a CSF leak. It's not some shrinking violet problem—few REAL problems are. So keep that in mind if you're determined to keep hitting the Google crack pipe.

In case anyone is still confused:  googling your symptoms will cause you to remain in a state of extreme anxiety. Stepping away from the internet is the first step toward lasting peace.

I get that dripping sensation a lot - no idea what it is but I've always assumed allergies, because it's worse when I'm congested.  If you had a CSF leak you would be in a lot more pain than you are, I think.  I think those are the same headaches you get after a lumbar puncture if you get up too soon, and I've heard that those are super-painful.
