CT Scan
« on: January 03, 2013, 08:14:20 AM »
Meh,

Saw ENT today, who listened to what problems I had ongoing with head/face pain as well as my last year of crazyness with allergies running amok, my eye gaining keratoconus and these 4 wisdom teeth that are impacted acting up. He checked my nose and noted I also have a deviated septum (sp?) the cartidge bends to my left side and blocks that side and he also said my nasal passages were inflamed. He checked my glands which were normal and said basically I have nothing exciting and im a boring case but he will ct scan to check the sinuses and maybe suggest I get the distorted passages sorted out too.

But yeah he assues me I have nothing big going on just a load of shitty things at one time.

No idea how long this ct will take to come through could be weeks away.

Obviously Im still worried the CT will show a brain tumor....but its most likely just my bad thought process as everyone says....

yes it is your bad thought processes driving the illogical fears that you have a brain tumor.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

To be honest,

Its the never the disease that actually worrys me its the thought that this "disease" will kill me....im terrified of death not just scared of it. Most my major HA scares in the past 10 years have come within weeks of going to a funeral too.

I have tried every SSRI in the past as well as Diazepam and other older anti d's none worked for me, I went to CBT that didnt help either. The only thing that helped me was using my obsessive thought process and working out but I was obsessed and over the top again with gaining muscle to the point where I would have done anything to get there (arnie style even) Not sure what to do with regard to the actual obsessive stuff its basically who I am.

As for the physical symptoms I have had, my neck/shoulder burning/stiff pain has subsided over the past week or so since I switched to one pillow at night funny enough...I still get headaches if thats what you can call them, still more like facial pain/light pressure.

what do you mean you went to CBT?

my son has been in therapy--for anxiety and depression (the kind that gets you admitted to the hospital)... not really cbt (which may or may not help people) for a full year.  We didn't start to see positive change until SIX months into it.  Just like anything worth a spit one has to put the time, effort into it.  My son seems to be more invested in getting better especially with THIS therapist (his first one, not so much).  Honestly I don't know how you worked your therapy.  I'm just saying plenty of peeps say they tried this or that, but if they are honest with themselves, they may find they weren't that invested in the things they tried.  Again I don't know how you worked your therapy.   Remember, too, that therapists are not miracle workers...  therapy is a two way street.  The therapist and client need to work together.  If the client is truly doing all the therapist suggests and still it isn't helping, then the client has the obligation to talk to the therapist about it.  If the two have tried all they can, and things are not working then a new therapist may have a different perspective.
YOu don't toss all therapy or all therapists in the trash bin.

Meds are a great help to some and to others not so much.  My son wasn't helped by meds, for instance.  AND meds ARE NOT a cure.  They are but ONE tool.  It would be a RARE person who swallowed a pill and found he/she was FIXED....   As my brother in law (who is a ph.d psy) says what meds have done for his patient's is allow for therapy to get better inroads.  he said of his patients on meds and those who aren't,  the ones who make better progress are the ones on meds.  BUT notice the patients on meds that were getting better were also IN therapy.  They weren't expecting meds to be a cure all.  I'm sure even the ones not on meds still were better off than the ones not doing much of anything but obsessing.   :winking0008:

Obviously you should do what you think is best for you.    I wish you the best.

with regards to cbt, I had a fair few sessions and was given things to do such as planning activities for the week and so on, I was seen a number of times but I didnt seem to have the drive to carry out this planning stuff.

When I lost weight and got fit it was just me actually using my obsessive nature for my own good, I lost 12 stone by the way in one year to half my body weight - before that I probably had clinical depression I was just sat about gaming on the pc to all hours of the morning and sleeping throughout the day and my hygine was terrible.

Since then as I said I got obsessed by working out and loosing weight, then kinda discovered I had this hormonal issue, went onto hormone therapy and had twins with partner 9 months ago (she couldnt get pregnant before I started hormone therapy)

Since the hormone therapy I had alot more drive and became so head strong (probably too headstrong) and this is my first real HA test since that therapy started, Im unsure if I should venture back down the cbt route again now, or if it would make a difference now im on this therapy. I think I will look into trying something for sure but probably after I have gone through all this stuff with the ct scan, and ops I need with the teeth and whatever else.

anti d's would be a nono for me right now due to their hormonal lowering effect, which is maybe the reason they didnt work on me previously. The major one I had was Venlafaxine (sp?) prescribed by a pysch and I was on that for over 1 year before I had enough and went cold turkey to get off it.

My wife once had some similar issues that you have, had a CT scan and was fine afterwards.
