Due for Follow Up - Does My Plan of Action Sound Healthy?
« on: January 02, 2013, 03:53:17 PM »
So I have been, for the last six months or so, convinced I am dying due to some lady business. For a variety of reasons, my sane mind knows this isn't reasonable, but nonetheless, suffice it to say I went to the lady doctor three about five times in 2012, not counting the dude who told me he wouldn't see me and gave me my money back.

Without going into the whole story, I was supposed to come back in six months: For the first appt that would be in January. For the last one, that would actually be in March. I am NOT ready to go.

My compromise was that I would go in March, with my girlfriend who will also be due for a ladybits exam. I still don't want to go or think about this - but I don't want to do too much avoidance because that's just really feeding the problem.

Does my current plan sound healthy? (Hmmm...this sounds like re-assurance seeking)

I'm confused, VeryScary. Are you saying you need to go back to the gynecologist twice? Once in January and once in March?

I guarantee you that, baring a real medical issue, going to the gynecologist five times in one year is TOO MUCH. Totally unnecessary. You haven't said if you've actually been diagnosed with anything—is there something going on?

Avoidance could be bad if there's an actual physical issue. But going for too much testing can also fuel your anxiety, which, because you're being so vague, seems to be your biggest problem.

I would love to hear more specifics about your situation, but overall I don't think waiting until March will be detrimental.

Well, to clarify: I started spotting, the day I was supposed to go in July. This continued: Starts mid-month, goes into the cycle, then stops. I was so convinced this was some awful thing that I went to the dr five times; I was originally supposed to come back in six months because they didn't get my endocervical zone.

Anyway, I ended up going to multiple drs, none of which could get said zone. The last dr I went to was in September, so theoretically, I'm supposed to come back six months after him, isntead of six months after the July one.

More clear? I don't want to avoid, but I'm not ready in January to do this :(

PS: I have a large fibroidi that they believe is the culprit. I can't accept this though.

January or March, it really doesn't matter. If you have a fibroid that your doctors suspect to be the culprit to your problems, what is keeping you from accepting that as true? What do you think is going on with your body?

Doctor hopping, or going to the doctor multiple times (beyond a reasonable second opinion) only drives up anxiety because it's a negative reinforcement behavior. Choose ONE doctor and make ONE follow up appointment.
