Reasons for hand weakness?
« on: January 01, 2013, 03:36:49 PM »
Hand weakness that occurs in both hands (sometimes) and sometimes a little pain? Possibly carpel tunnel? Arthritis? Anybody tell me what could be the cause of hand weakness? By the way im asking this on behalf of my mother, who doesn't have anxiety so don't suggest it's just anxiety. I think I have been freaking out about this more then she has haha. By the way, she is 47 if that info is of any help. I worry sick it is als but I'm trying to see a broader spectrum of diagnosis it could be. Thanks

Yeah
It's a thief in the night
To come and grab you
It can creep up inside you
And consume you
A disease of the mind
It can control you
It's too close for comfort

Carpal tunnel syndrome is pretty safe to look up on google as it isn't something drastic. Weakness is a symptom of carpal tunnel for sure. I would tell her to ask her doctor about it, as he can give her a brace(s) to use and see if it helps.

Yeah I am hoping it is something like that. I just want to know what other (less drastic) diseases are out there that could cause this. I'm also hoping someone else has had this before and it turned out to be not very serious?

A pinched nerve can cause a lot of weird symptoms like tingling, numbness and weakness in parts of the body depending on which nerve is involved. Carpal tunnel and a pinched nerve are from what I've read one in the same.
