Pinched nerve... Carpel Tunnel... issue with left hand
« on: January 01, 2013, 02:39:13 PM »
My left hand has been tingling since this summer time and I had a fear over it being it Rabies (since i got bitten on my pointer, flipper, and ring finger and those ones were tingling really badly, I got bitten by mice 7 years before my fingers tingle, the tingling was a nerve issue instead ) The doc. said that it was Anxiety and Carpel Tunnel, but since I'm a teen...14 I think it isn't carpel tunnel since old people get it (like my grandpa) and I was wondering if it's Carpel tunnel or a pincched nerve that I have. Symptoms:
Tingling of my left hand pointer, flipper, and ring finger, mild If I take a B-50 Complex and multivites for my nerve (that's what they were perscribed for, but they help my anxiety too!!!) also mild if I wear a wrist brace while sleeping and doing activities like typing, tingling is worse in the night without a brace, without my B-50 complex and multivites, after typing (gradually becomes worse). I'm only a TEEN 14, and I need help figuring ut what it is since I can't on my own and since I got an awnser from my doctor (Carpel Tunnel) and an awnser from a massage therapist (Pinched Nerve)... Anyhow it gets on my nerves because it tingles without certain things.
NOTE: I was wearing a wrist brace while typing this and it's tingling (my fingers) since I haven't taken my vitamins this morning... I'll go do that while you guys help me awnser my nerve issue  :happy0151: I DON'T do sports, if that helps.

You don't have to be old to get carpal tunnel, especially in today's computer dominant society. What you have sounds like what I have - and I've also been diagnosed with carpal tunnel. I'm 26, so older than you, but by no means a senior! LOL! I spend a lot of time typing for work, and play and I have terrible posture. My hands sometimes tingle even with my wrist braces, and if I sleep without my braces on, my hands feel awful. My doctor did a few simple tests in his office and determined it was carpal tunnel (and not arthritis which I thought it was). He told me more young people are getting it now because of computers and video games.

If you spend a lot of time on the computer, it might be time to re-evaluate your computer space. Check out your chair, and your desk, and how you sit while you're using the computer. Try and see about getting in to see a physio therapist. My hands tingle if I run water over my median nerve. I used to think it was because the water was hot or cold, but it only happens if I let the water hit a certain area on my hands! And it's only my thumb, forefinger, middle finger, and half of my ring finger that tingle.

Carpal tunnel seems to be pretty common in younger people as well these days, especially ones that use the computer a lot. A pinched nerve actually can be caused by carpal tunnel syndrome, so they may be one in the same. Tingling is definitely a sign of carpal tunnel from what I've read.

Thanks ClassicNerd I hate wearing a brace, I even have to take it to school since we type in Humanities and since my hand gets worse after typing, like way worse. It is SO annoying how my dad dosen't have the money for me to go see a neroligist for my nerve issue, I wish to go to one someday since this tingling isn't going away and since I'm a teen and I have lots of other things to do other than wear a brace to limit my ability to do stuff with my left hand. Thanks MOchp!!!! I'll keep that in mind and wear a wrist brace often!

Hey - I'm not sure you need to see a neurologist. I wasn't recommend to one, but be sure to talk to your doctor! It can take a while for massage therapy to work, and these types of conditions take forever and a day to heal. Also, try to limit your time on the computer and playing video games if you can.

Try going out for walks, or get into something like yoga. That might help your posture and the entrapped nerve.

But video games are soooo worth the carpal tunnel!!  :goofy:

LOL! MOchp! I'm inclined to agree with you! I did something to my wrist a while back playing Nintendo (all healed) and my doctor told me not to play for a week. So what did I do? I kept playing. I was in my late teens, early twenties at the time and my parents had to take the Nintendo away. I can be such a child sometimes... Because I didn't listen to my doctor it took me twice as long to heal. I've got really tiny wrists, so they're prone to injury.

I don't go to the doctors often, I only go for shots (well ones like Tetanus, not for the flu), or if I hurt/sprain a joint or something... I haven't been to the doctor's (where I live, to get a check up) for about four years since I rarley get sick and since I rarely get sick I don't need as many doctor visits as my siblings  But the last time I went to A doctor (for my hand) was the summer of 2012 when my anxiety made me think that it was Rabies :goofy: I'm not at the doctors often. I KNOW for a fact that my parent's won't take me to the doctors for my anxiety or my Carpel Tunnel they only take me when they can see things lik when I had Bells Palsy from stress at the age of 10. I had a check up at 11...or 10... They told me to come back at 12 yrs. but it's been two years. My parent's don't take me anywhere only if I beg them A LOT or if it's for my health and well being (they only take me if I'm sick whichis rare for me, and has been since the age of 10)

I hate having Carpel Tunnel, it's tingling non stop and I wish I could meet a doc. that can MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!!!!!! It's a bother because even on vitamins and wearing a wrist brace hasn't helped.
