2nd guessing my Dr ....I HATE THIS :(
« on: December 30, 2012, 02:40:16 AM »
Does this sound like GERD ?

- constant  heaviness / pain in chest that moves around but mostly behind the breastbone in the middle of my chest
- gets slightly worse after eating
- antacids provide little or no relief, I get MORE relief from   Panadol and a hot water bottle on my chest
- swallowing just fine
- gets worse when I am stressed or upset
- numb tongue
-  elevating head and shoulders in bed has no effect
- when I am relaxed or happy ( rare these days) the pain /  heaviness all but disappears and can eat anything I want with no nasty side effects. We had friends over for dinner the other night and my husband made a delicious Cajun Caesar  salad and I had seconds with absolutely no problems, I put it down to the fact that I  was enjoying myself with friends and not worrying about things.

My Dr thinks I might be overdoing it on fatty foods and my  gallbladder less  body is reacting  in this way but I have convinced myself that its GERD, a work colleague has recently diagnosed with GERD so I'm wondering  if  my stupid, GAD brain has decided that I have it too...ugh. I don't know why I think I know better than my dr  and I'm so sick of it. Made an appointment with a psychologist. For mid Jan and hopin that will help.

Could be GERD, but also sounds like it could just be anxiety symptoms. I have horrible reflux, chest/stomach pain, and nausea when I have anxiety. Yet these symptoms are magically nowhere to be found when I'm feeling content.

I actually really do have acid reflux if I don't eat well, though, anxious or not. The more fruits and veggies I eat, the better I feel. So perhaps you do have some GERD issues. But the fact that you feel fine when you're not stressed/upset mostly indicates anxiety to me.
