Felt like I couldnt open my eyes

I was laying in bed tonight and i was asleep (i think). and it felt like i couldnt open my eyes. it felt like my face was twitching. it only lasted a few seconds and then i opened my eyes but it really scared me. and it made me feel like i was dying in my sleep or my brain quit working and now i am afraid to go back to sleep. i want to know could i really not open my eyes, was i dreaming or what. any advice or words of comfort is greatly appreciated. thank u.

Could have just been a micro nap. When they happen we can sleep for a few seconds only. But we can have short lucid dreams with them. Thus we are asleep, but we are also fully aware of the wakened world as well. We can fight to move. Fight to open our eyes. Have had to same thing happen many times. Nothing to worry about at all. Is all part of the sleep process.

It's possible that your brain woke before your body. It's usually the other way around, but sometimes this happens. Once for me. I read it never really last longer then 2-3 second

I've had something similar happen to me. A few times now, I've dreamed (I assume..) that I wake up but I can't move at all or open my eyes or mouth and I'm just stuck like that no matter how much I try to move. It's terrifying!
