anxiety panic book you have read or reading and your experience?
« on: December 15, 2012, 01:24:23 AM »
I really enjoy reading and thought that we could tell each other self help books that we read and or reading and if they helped us or not etc. I thought it would be helpful. I am reading from panic to power by lucinda bassett. I haven't read much but so far it seems pretty good.

Mind Over Mood. They even have a web site that goes by the same name. Is a very easy book to read and work from. Yes. They give you exercises to try out. The goal is to make you better come the end of the day. You will find a lot of therapists using this book too. Well worth checking out.

"Hope and Help For Your Nerves" by Dr. Claire Weekes is a great book.  I use it often as well as the CD "Pass Through Panic."

Interesting suggestions. In fact, I have Lucinda Bassett's book and know about her program. Also have the Sam Obitz book.

The foundation is CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) which has been invaluable to me. Yet I don't throw out Freud and his look to childhood. We need to understand our origins and then work on reconditioning ourselves, or so I think. This is an ongoing process for many, me included. It also includes daily exercise and daily meditation. The results can be quite wonderful.

I am currently reading A Life Less Anxious by Steve Pavilanis, and he's got a lot of great techniques for getting through panic attacks

Any of the Claire Weeke's books are great - many of them have the same info, though, so don't go ordering them all!

Dr. David Burns has one on depression and anxiety - it's pretty difficult reading, but some really good stuff.

A great book for people with anxiety AND their families, significant others, etc. to help explain it is "The Anxiety Disease" by David V. Sheehan.  It was writtein the 1980's, but I still have it in my library and think it's one of the most down to earth, comprehensive books out there.
