Does anyone experience eye pressure during panic?
« on: November 25, 2012, 10:34:39 PM »
I wish I could explain the feeling, and I get even more depressed because I can't. But it feels like my eyes are bulging out of my head and I'm going to lose it (like faint, yelp, or have a seizure episode or something) and it always kicks off the fight or flight. Sometimes its accompanied by another indescribable feeling: head pressure, where it feels like something is sitting on top of my head and pushing down on it. It can be in either the back of my head or on the very top. It always makes me feel out of it. Combined with the weird eye pressure, I can't help but panic. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is this a panic symptom? My vision doesn't get blurry, it just literally feels like my eyes will blow out of my head. B-;

I think either you have a sinus problem, or you're obsessing about your health which is bringing on the physical symptoms you find so disturbing and these then sets off a panic attack.

The sinus passages cover a large area of the face, including the forehead (photo) and if blocked they could produce symptoms similar to yours. They don't need to be infected. Do you mostly breath through your nose?

If you have had these checked and it's been determined they aren't the cause, then anxiety would be the most likely cause, IMHO. Are you being treated for anxiety?

Best wishes

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.

I don't get eye pressure, I get weird eye pain sometimes during my panic attacks.

More often it's a cluster headache I experience, but the pain does occur in either of my eyes for no apparent reason.

I had my doctor check it out, and she said it's a fairly normal phenomena.  Although I must admit, your situation and mine sound different,  I don't know that it's anything to worry too much about though.  Sounds like a sinus issue, which shouldn't be a substantial issue.

Yes.  Even with anxiety spikes and not full blown panic episodes I get this.  It's bullshit, BULLSHIT I can't get help with this from a doctor.   This is NOT healthy.  I test for ZERO drugs every time.  Sometimes, I even if i don't show it in chat, I really wish I was gone.

Ditapage - YES! I experience this exact same thing on a daily basis and I have experienced it ever since my first panic attack - actually, I think it is what CAUSED my first panic attack.

Even right at this very moment, I feel a pressure behind my eyes, at the bridge of my nose, on top of and inside my head. It makes me feel out of it and very anxious and worried. It starts to get worse when my anxiety level goes up, but it is almost always there. I have no idea what it is, but then again I have never had it checked as I don't know exactly how to explain it to a doctor..the last time I tried, the doctor told me to go to a therapist for anxiety. I did, and well, the pressure is still there. I also feel it in the roof of my mouth. Yawning makes it go away for a few seconds, then it's back. Does that happen to you, too? It'd be really nice to know if this is a physical problem or anxiety symptom.....I know how you feel.

I hear you... it is BULLSHIT. And there's no explaining it to a doctor which only worsens my anxiety and depression. I'm relieved that other people with panic experience it though because I'd never heard of it being a symptom.

knico1229: I get pressure in all the same places you mention (minus the roof of my mouth but it's probably just a matter of time  ::)) and it makes me feel really out of it, I know the feeling exactly. It started my episodes of derealization. Simply awful!

I thought it might have been eye strain caused by computer and iphone screen, and it worsens our anxiety because any symptom usually does, but i think it's anxiety... mine is always a thousand times stronger and more panic attack inducing when I'm overly anxious.

It really makes me feel like I'm going to lose it.. whatever the hell that means. I never quite know what "it" is. But I just want to go berserk when it starts. And I get snappy and irritable... how about you?

Dita - yes, it  makes me feel like I'm going to flip out...whatever that means. I feel like I'm going to go crazy, burst out of my skin, or pass out.
